No problems at all...
When I bought this little kitchen gadget a few weeks back, I was very apprehensive. Reviews here on Amazon made me worried about its safety. Then tonight, I wanted a boiled egg fast, and thought I'd give h Boiley a try. I filled up the water to the indicated line (not taking into account any displacement of fluid), poked a hole into the base of the egg and placed it upside down (hole facing up) into the boiler. I put my microwave on 3.5 minutes, walked away and despite all my apprehension, no problem occured. No explosion, the egg was intact. The egg, as I am eating it now, is perfectly soft-boiled.What I did notice, however, and this might be one of the problems people are experiencing, is that when you poke a hole into the egg, the shell tends to form a flap that can close on itself. For my second egg, I poked the hole a few times and the flap wasn't raised when I took the egg out. My only explanation for the apparent problem is, that in some cases the shell flaps back up and plugs the air hole, leading to a pressure buildup and explosion of the egg.Anyhow, I hope people can enjoy this wonderful gadget in peace and safety.

If < 1,000 watts, forget it.
If microwave is less than 1,000 watts, forget it. Three eggs wasted. 4, 5, 6 minutes and the yoke was still liquidity. Instructions say don't go over 6 minutes.

Operator error probably
This unfortunately did not work for me. I wasted 4 eggs before I gave up & threw it away :(

This works great!
I purchased this to replace a VERY similar one that I had bought years ago from a mail order company. This one is almost identical in functionality as my old one, except the plastic spacer/insert that goes under the aluminum egg "seat", and the fact that this company sends a pin to pierce the yolk- I never had to pierce the yolk with my old one. I think the reason they want you to pierce the yolk, is just liability. My microwave is 950 watts. All you do to use this is fill the bottom half to the fill line with tap water. Then put the aluminum egg seat on top of the removable plastic spacer, put your egg in, and put the top on, making sure it's locked properly. On the back of the Joie, there is a "lock guide" to help you get the top and bottom half aligned properly to lock. The top and bottom sections should not have a gap in between!! If there is one, you probably have the plastic spacer ring turned upside down. Open the Joie, and turn it over to see if that corrects the problem. Be sure the top and bottom are locked tightly, or steam pressure can lift the top open slightly, and allow the aluminum to become exposed to the microwaves, which can burn up your magnitron if sparking occurs. The directions that came with this say for a hard boiled egg, cook 5 minutes. I cooked 6 and found it still wasn't cooked totally solid. With my old one, I used to do 2.5 minutes on high, and then 7 minutes on power level 7. I got a perfectly cooked egg using this method. I will try this in the future with my Joie. After cooking your egg (as you would do with any hard boiled egg), put it in a bowl of ice cold water for about 5 minutes or longer. Doing so keeps the yolk from turning green, and makes the egg easy to peel. Rinse of the Joie parts with cool water and drain. The aluminum inside will change color/darken slightly after the first use. This is normal from the effect of the heat on it.I recommend this procuct. It is Made In communist China for a Canadian based company.

love it!
i have been using my boiley egg boiler every morning for the past few years , for a soft boiled egg ..... i just finally bought a replacement, altho i can still use the old one too .. i live at high elevation, one mile high, so my cooking times might vary from what you might use at sea level .. in my 1000 watt microwave, i cook for three minutes .. in my lower wattage microwave, i cook for 3:33 minutes ... i cook when the egg is cold, straight from the fridge ... after the microwave oven shuts off, i generally let the boiley sit in the microwave oven for an additional minute or so....comes out perfect every time .. just fill the bottom with water .. its that easy .. i even keep one in my suitcase to travel with .. most hotel rooms include a microwave oven , and this way, i can easily have my one soft boiled egg for breakfast, every day .... i use the eggshell pricker that comes with the boiley,l ... prick the rounded end of the egg, and then place the pricked side up, inside the boiley .. no problems ever .. comes out a perfectly soft boiled egg every time ... i use jumbo sized eggs, farm fresh. My boily,s little face is wearing off. I was able to buy nail polish in the right colors . Black and orange, and was able to repaint his face.

I like it because it's small and handy. But it exploded sometimes!
I like it because it's small and handy. It's good if you live alone and need only 1 egg for a time. My boiled egg is just perfect with doing along the instruction manual inside.Editted: I downgrade the star from 5->3 after using it for a few months. Even though I pierced the egg every time before putting it in microwave. It did explode for a few time and have a crack several times. Especially when you need hard boil egg and set up the microwave for 5 minutes. (For your information, my microwave is just only 900 watts, and I always pierce the egg as deep as the needle length) From my experience, it's more risky to explode if you set the time for more than 4 minutes. (3 minutes for soft and 4 minutes for medium boiled egg, so I cannot have hard boiled egg anymore). I still give it 3 stars because it worked ok if you prefer soft or medium soft egg.
