Blow those cannons off
Vivien Leigh (Lady Hamilton) is caught shoplifting and put in a cell where she recounts her life story to Heather Angel. It's a story that reveals her to be the ex-mistress of Laurence Olivier (Lord Nelson) and ex-wife of Alan Mowbray (Lord Hamilton) and it details her romance with the English naval hero up until his death at the 'Battle of Trafalgar'.The film is long but this doesn't seem to matter as the story captures the audience from the beginning. The cast are all good and, apart from the leads of Leigh and Olivier, mentions must go to Alan Mowbray who ends up as an hallucinating wreck and, in particular, Gladys Cooper (Lady Nelson) who holds her dignity and whose every scene is filled with tension. There are some powerful scenes, eg, Vivien Leigh receiving the news of her lover's death, and the film gives you a bit of everything - romance, humour, drama and good actors. It ends rather suddenly - it would have been interesting to know what happens next and what happens to the child - but the story doesn't take things that far. To her, Lady Hamilton’s life ends at the battle of Trafalgar.

Amazing Dvd
This was an outstanding film. I found small clips online of the ‘main battle’ and I thought that’s all I would enjoy… HOWEVER I am glad to say that it was one of my least favourite scenes… not because it’s bad but because the amount of amazing film making and a amazing story just kept me hooked emotionally, such a powerful love story. One of my favourites. Would definitely recommend to someone due to their amazing performance in this movie. They definitely don’t make them like they used too!!!

love this film but not this dvd
it says it has subtitles in English but of course ITV's strawberry media's version of this magnificent movie has no such thing. Other DVDs do, blu rays, etc. -- hours later, received email asking me to rate this dvd. i had already written how unfortunate it was to discover that for actually numerous times i'd bought an itv produced strawberry media dvd. This movie was used by Winston Churchill to get FDR to see the England and Scotland as a great nation that was capable of beating Napoleon, if it only had a little help. That help became the Lend-Lease Act. America provided ships that helped guard British mercantile ships that were bringing food and supplies to a besieged nation. It is an important film and deserves to be treated better by British companies. It does say English subtitles in the description but the listing offers three different versions of the movie. How is a customer to know which version is being sold? BTW, I do not blame the third-party seller for this.

Wonderful Viewing
Winston Churchill said that this was one of his favourite films and that, I can well imagine. It epitomises one man crying out for the urgent need to prepare for war - as indeed Churchill did in the lead up to the Second World War - instead of appeasement.Laurence Olivier and his then wife, Vivien Leigh make the perfect Lord Horatio Nelson and Lady Emma Hamilton. Vivien Leigh's Cockney accent as Emma Hart at the commencement of the film, is a treat and Laurence Olivier's almost inarticulate outbursts against the Admiralty, the King of Naples and anybody else who cannot adopt his principals are masterly; he depicts Nelson as a doer and a fighter, rather than a talker or a diplomat. Gladys Cooper takes a terrific part as Lady Nelson and Alan Mowbray, as Sir William Hamilton manages to pinch some of the best acerbic lines and delivers them with unerring malice aforethought. With sweeping music by Miklos Rozsa, and the excitingly staged Battle of Trafalgar, the film is unashamedly patriotic and for a serial blubber like myself, it demands a double pack of Kleenex.Unmissable.

Lady Hamilton
I was very thrilled to re-visit this great Alexander Korda film in its renewed form. At the time the film was made, Vivien Leigh was in the throes of a deep love affair with Laurence Olivier. This makes the love scenes in the film even more poignant and touching. The film is quite true to one of the greatest love stories in British History. I could see no reason to change the title from "Lady Hamilton" to "That Hamilton Woman". Emma Hamilton was a lady in more sense than one. From very humble beginnings, she rose to mix with some of the highest people in the land. I thoroughly recommend this beautifully acted and presented film.

The Cover is designed petty and so is the disc ...
The Cover is designed petty and so is the disc menu. The DVD version is under the quality of a Mpeg 2 format with the duration only 95 minutes, while the blu ray version is a fair one and the duration 125 minutes. Both lack English subtitle and the price is reasonable. Sorry to find the package arrived with broken small pieces outer and inner the case.
