5 stars for the book, excellent, you will not go wrong with it.
ZERO stars to the seller for the "used- Very Good" rating this book was given. Obviously the seller did not look IN the book! On the outside the book looks great. Inside there is an old sticker mark on the cover, pencil marks, there is major damage to some of the pages in the book, wrinkled, folded, torn pages, corners missing, and even a book store receipt still in the book dated from 1993? At the very least this book should have been listed as ACCEPTABLE, good as a reference book. I expected the book to be in better condition with the "very good" rating it was given. For what I paid for this book, I will keep it.As for the book, It is a wonderful book. I love the book for the large amount of excellent pictures, and the sheer abundance of information contained in this book. This book is well done!

Japanese Home Architecture/Design
This book is a little gem. It explains differences between Western and Japanese homes and demonstrates the philosophy behind the Japanese home with photos of several implementations in different Japanese homes (old and new). It covers all interior aspects of Japanese style with regards to architectural details, form, function, and philosophy. The photos are very good as are the line drawings. My only complaint is that I wish the book were larger format with glossy pages. As others have noticed, despite the title, this is NOT a book on how to give Japanese touches to your home, but instead, shows you through photos and drawings each basic concept in Japanese design - it leave it to the reader to use their own creativity to interpret and implement what aspects they resonate with.

Good book, nice read, well-balanced (pics & text)
I love books that give you more than just nice pictures and footnotes describing the picture in an unnecessarily elegant manner. This has enough pictures to suck you into the world of Japanese home design but at the same time provides plenty of informative text. I wish more books were like this; well-balanced, interesting, and informative. As far as the product itself, it came in the expected condition, sooner than expected, actually looks better than the picture. Originally, I didn't like the design of the hardcover's front side so I wasn't planning on putting it on display - I like putting nice looking books where people can see them and take interest. I'm still not going to put it on display but I'm at least not going to hide it out of sight like I thought. It's a bit taller than I expected (physical dimensions), so if your bookshelf can only fit college textbook-height items, you might have to lean this one or lay it down, find another place for it, etc.

Excellent photos & drawings
Book arrived as described. It has excellent photographs and drawings for adding a touch of Japanese style to your home. I lived in Japan for three years. My first house was western style except for the Japanese bath tub and my second house had one room with tatami mats. I miss these features and will use this book to add some Japanese style to my home.

A Japanese home - authentic
The title of "A Japanese Touch for your home" is misleading. Don't expect a set of advice on how to add Japanese-style details to your home interior. Rather, this is a detailed guide of creating an authentic Japanese home, using the correct dimensions and materials. Starting from the use of shoji to how to built a room for the tea ceremony, from the entranceway to veranda - it's all there with pictures and plans.I am not sure if many people outside Japan would really go that far as to build a real Japanese house, but it is certainly an enlightening and interesting book, giving you a perspective of a culture and a way of life.

A picture is worth a thousand words
This book has truly inspired and guided us in several aspects of design of a new contemporary house. As the credit card advertisement states, "priceless."The book is also quite attractive. It is not, as others have noted a how-to guide.

The Title is Misleading
Although it is a GOOD book with great quality pictures, it does very little to add a Japanese Touch for Your Home. It graphically explains the areas of a Japanese style house but it does not help you integrate the oriental with the western style of living, which is what I thought it was about.Further more the couple of projects for building Japanese furniture a pretty basic, you can find better one for free in the Internet. It is a good book to read but for me it didnt have any practical use.

A Japanese Touch for your Home.
'A Japanese Touch for your Home's is an informative, clear and attractive introduction to Japanese interior design. You get stunning photos illustrating the various topics being discussed, as well as clear line drawings to clarify certain points or dimensions. There is also a short DIY projects section at the back with some ideas you can try yourself. This looks at Verandas, screening devices, tatami mats, the alcove, tea room, sitting, lighting and more besides. It may be a short book at under 100 pages, but it is visually attractive and well laid out. It gives plenty of ideas for Japanese interior design touches in your home and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Superb
I have started designing my bedroom and am a purist when it comes down to books, i try to steer clear of all this e-book stuff, i love a hard copy. So i decided to order this and (making japanese-style lamps and lanterns) in order to gain some perspective and a knowledgeable insite into how to make my room Japanese.I had previously used various internet and game design sources, but this book really is fantastic, the explanation is great, it covers history, styles of design and also comes complete with floor plans which is excellent, hidden lighting and also much more. All in all it's superb for the person interested in Japanese design, someone who wants to create a room and also gives you plenty of creative idea's.10/10, superb book.

One of the best interior design books I own
One of the best interior design books I own. It's informative without being boring, has plenty of pictures, and contains lots of helpful practical information and projects. It's not intended to give you an exhaustive rundown of every feature of Japanese architecture, but it gives the core concepts behind common architectural features that can then be applied to how you organize your own house. I highly recommend it!
