Or can you only install the black ink?** A: This is a laser printer, so it uses toner, not ink. It comes with four toner cartridges, three color and one black. It only uses the toner needed when printing; however, all four must be installed or the printer goes into error mode and will not print. I believe the toners that come with the printer are starter toners and do not print as many sheets as the replacement toners purchased later. It is the industry standard to sell laser printers with toners that are only partially full of toner, so the user is compelled to replace the toners cartridges prematurely and they are a little expensive. But laser printers are generally less expensive to use than ink jets because in the long run toner is less expensive per page than ink. This printer clearly did not go through basic QA testing.This printer goes into a deep sleep mode after being turned on for just a minute or so. There is no documentation that I can find to describe how to modify the deep sleep mode or disable it. When the printer goes into deep sleep mode it disables the network connection which causes other computers on the network to think the printer is completely offline. I find myself constantly having to print test pages from the printer before even attempting to print something from my computer just to make sure its connected to the network. I also find myself having to reinstall the dang thing frequently because of dropped connections.A print speed of 23ppm is the rosiest estimate ever. You might be able to get 23ppm if you're printing in b&w and only one print job. Keep in mind that you'll have to spent several minutes ensuring the printer is online and your computer still recognizes it as the same printer. I hate this printer and whenever the toner runs out I will buy another printer.
