Quite literally a piece of junk -- somehow bearing the Tanita name
Don't even think about it. I have owned a Tanita scale for about 20 years. It has been and still is as solid as a rock. It just works! In the process of trying to find a more modern version of that product and because we need another scale in the house, I consulted an AI client and was told that the best moderately- priced scale like my unit is a model BC-730. Alas, that was not good advice. The thing didn't function as described in the instructions from the inception of turning it on. No audible beep or other indicator was heard when it was powered up and the user was met with "12345" on the main screen with no out except to turn it off only to repeat the same process. I then set about to return it to Amazon. If you have never had to deal with a less-than-competent Amazon suppler for whom Amazon operates like a broker, you will have some understanding. Be prepared for distant, less-than-competent people operating by arcane rules that are promulgated by a company in the state of Washington (in this case something called "The Competitive Edge" in Preston, Washington (not a joke) that communicates and operates like the IRS. I finally gave up and just paid to send it back to said company (behind whom both Amazon and Tanita USA hide). I doubt that I will ever see credit or refund from the experience but I learned a lesson (or perhaps 2 or 3). Don't deal with Amazon suppliers if at all possible not to do so. Ensure that returns and service are classic Amazon and not provided by someone else whom Amazon can hide behind when they wish to do so. Meanwhile I will look for another scale--most assuredly not Tanita!. And, oh by the way, remember that Amazon's return remedy sometimes is to issue a credit to the credit or debit card used in the purchase. That sounds nice unless you have been forced to have a card reissued as a result of a fraud claim. Any credit is likely then going to be lost in space (of the issuing bank and perhaps the Federal Reserve).

Avoid this scale and its seller!
Avoid this seller who I strongly suspect to not be the true Tanita company as their return DEMANDS indicate otherwise. This is the only time in 20+ years that I've encountered a seller with a full page of demands to return something! People shop on Amazon for convenience yet they require offsite communication, issuance of their own RMA #, and for you to pay for the return shipping! Only then will they MAYBE accept the return for a refund once it gets to them. All that (and more!) for a cheap plastic scale that doesn't do anything it's supposed to do! Unbelievable.

2 different Tanita show 8% far apart fat rates.
I am Japanese born and love Japanese products and I always buy Tanita for past 12 years. I bought BF679W a month ago and added BC730 lately because I wanted to know more measurements in my body rather than fat rates, weights and water level. BC730 arrived and weighed myself and fat rates are far different like 8% in 2 scales. I actually emailed Tanita CS, and they explained that single frequency and multi-frequency measurements could be different. I got confused. I need to know the accurate numbers when I start to be healthier. I can't trust the numbers at all now. They briefly explained for a line or 2 and that's it. I am returning this single frequency model, which I thought more advanced than the BF679. I just need to know the accurate number to start working on my weight and fat rates. I don't buy Tanita any more and try the different brand. Plus, I have to pay $20 to return this product, I am not happy at all. They sold less than excellent product and I have to pay for returning it? I am not sure.

$25 to return bad scale
This scale did not function properly. It cost $25 to send the scale back by UPS. $25 to return a $60 item is not a great purchase.
