This is a steal
I got this as I understood it was a pretty decent clone of a horizon precision overdrive. Short and sweet this pedal is absolutely awesome! My amp is incredibly high gained so I use it as a boost. Was able to dial in a range of different sounds and tones with my prs 24-08. Would highly recommend, noise gate also works great at well. Pedal itself is very solid, nice and sturdy, knobs are very tactile. The attack is basically switching between several different styles of overdrive... again making this thing really effective for a range of sounds.

BUY THIS PEDAL!
Having now spent a sufficient amount of time with this pedal I'm ready to submit a review. I can describe the JOYO Splinter Distortion in three words: Buy This Pedal! I have put together 22 pedal boards now (I'm single so I have money) and I have probably more JOYO pedals than any other brand. Their customer service (for me anyway) was an actual pleasure to deal with on an issue I was having. One of the biggest features for me it the build quality. I've had foot switches go out on pedals costing 4 time more. Start with the controls at noon. I think JOYO is the best at setting the internal adjustments at noon as the perfect starting point. Adjust from there per you personal preferences and you're dialed. I prefer the stock settings but they all sound great. I add my bottom end with an on board EQ so I don't need the FAT setting. The FILTER (tone) control is opposite of the traditional tone control. Full clockwise is treble cut and full counter-clockwise is where the treble lives. I love the Joyo pedals. P.S. I just ordered my second JOYO Bright Day Overdrive pedal that I'll be running (along side my old DOD 250) into a Hagerman Valve pedal. The ODs slamming into a real tube preamp is (that set up and sound) is where I'm at. I have to admit that the tone I have been chasing and have finally nailed is the tone Alex Lifeson (RUSH) had on "Finding My Way" from their debut record. OK. I'll stop now. BUY JOYO PEDALS!!!

Very solid and a great value!
Best line selector since the Boss LS-2! Having used both, I have the Joyo one in my rig. They function almost exactly the same...except at a lot better price. This pedal is at the heart of my set up and is the second to last in my chains only followed by a noise suppressor. And yes, i said chains with an S...I run two channels, A&B, but start with an ABY pedal that splits into those two channels and then sums back at the end into the Joyo to adjust each line level. I'm the type that likes to push the limits of what i can do with what I've got and pedals like this and other FX loop/ line selectors help me do just that. It allows you to route things and try different ways of achieving a single goal using the pedals i already have (which is a lot). The best feature is the ability to adjust each lines volume. This is a feature that most pedals in this price range often overlook. But for me...its essential. The build quality is very durable. Solid metal housing and strong pots. There's even a place for a battery on the bottom (Something slowly disappearing from more and more pedals). All the connections have a good locked in feel to them and the foot switch is better than average. I took mine a step further and changed the knobs to match the color of the channels, just for easier use and honestly I wish they would do it on the next version of this pedal. Completely satisfied with everything about it that it has opened my eyes to other Joyo pedals as I was not familiar with the brand. This pedal has taken a beating and keeps on chugging away, switching channels flawlessly the whole way. The many different modes are a bonus as again, most others don't have this feature and they are always fun to use when experimenting with new sounds and routing ideas. Can't go wrong on this one. Just make sure you know its what you're looking for as opposed to a "Looper". This is not a looper, it does not record or allow for overdubs, etc. It's a line selection' switching tool. a very good one at that.

What are you waiting on ? Should already be on your board.
I don't understand some of the negative things on line about this pedal ( mostly great ) I think this pedal on it's own is killer and as a boost even better. I was using a tube screamer type OPP IN ( same as the Rowin ) and I love it. It's still on my board but this Joyo is so much more versital. You can get that swedish chainsaw sound with the tone Maxed out, I think it's cool sometimes but It sound's just like boss HM2 or close out of both distortion pedals I'm using as in the picture. 1 is thick 3 is Less thick full sound and 1 you get a tight treb/mid sound and you can fill in what 2 and 5 would be. Basically bassie to treb. I been playing since 13 and I'm 47. I took a 10 year break from playing a lot. 4 years ago I picked it back up and I understood things somehow I didn't before and bad habit's left and Everything is so much easier. And the technology has stepped up. And I play everything from rock to Slayer, Metallica, Death Metal. I sometimes don't know what I'm going to play it just starts flowing out of me. 75% I play just comes and I have a lot of great stuff and pedals like this one makes you want to play. I usually run everything through my boss gt1 so I can EQ everything right and I have access to Para EQ and the sound of these pedals gets way better. You can't get that with just a tone knob or a 3 band eq. Joyo is a great company and they have done dam good giving us there version of the REVV 3/4 with the dark flame. Most people are more into that Friedman OD sound and I love it too. You see the picture of what distortion I have along with the 20 plus I have in the boss and the 20 plus amp versions I have. Can be confusing to some but not to me. I love being able to get almost every distortion sound lol. Well Od, Dis, Fuzz Buy it I mean it's 36 $. Dark Flame rocks and these where meant to be together. And that Irin Instruments Extreme metal is the Joyo Extreme metal no difference so if you see one for 17$ or more buy it. Metal head's will understand. I'm playing through a Roland cube Rx and a PA 15 until I get a good Amp again but I love the Roland.

Am truly surprised by this pedal. I play high gain metal and this thing works like a champ!

No nuance. At all.
TL;DR -Great sounding ambient tones -But it's just too much; it lacks versatility with other modes like spring and plate -Instructions are very lacking ATTACHED PHOTO -An image of the instruction manual THE REVIEW This is not a bad pedal for ambient sounds, which is what I bought it for. However, it would also be nice if the other traditional reverbs were usable. They are not ... at least for me. Here are my issues with the pedal ... IT LACKS NUANCE -With the decay and mix turned as low as they will go, the echo continues on for a few seconds. It's just too much, even on settings such as room or spring. There are sometimes when you just want about a second or less of reverb, and with this pedal, it's extremely difficult to dial in these settings. Unless I have a broken pedal, when I turn the mix and decay down to 0, there is no reverb at all, and you have to turn it up about 10 percent before you finally start hearing reverb. The problem is, by this point, you're already pretty heavy into the mix. There's just no subtlety or nuance. INSTRUCTIONS (or lack thereof) -This device is not intuitive. The default behavior of this pedal is to save the last setting you used on each mode. For example, if you use shimmer with the mix and decay turned up, then switch to room and turn down those settings, the pedal will remember your last settings and use those -- even though the knobs will show that you have these settings turned down. And I get that this feature may be useful in certain situations, but it's certainly not useful all the time. Another issue with this is that as soon as you move any knob after swapping modes, the lights will annoyingly flash quickly, and can only be stopped by long-pressing on the right pedal. There is a manual, but it's only 2 pages and while it lists features, it doesn't show how to use those. It lists features like trail mode on/off, preset mode, etc., but it's trial and error to figure out, and as I mentioned earlier, this is not an intuitive pedal, and I've owned over 200 different pedals, so I'm not a novice. It would be nice if I could turn off the memory feature. It can sometimes be confusing to look at the knobs in one position but to hear something entirely different. OHTER ISSUES -I'm also encountering an intermittent issue where the pedal will power up and immediately power back down. I sometimes have to plug it out and back in several times, but so far -- knock on wood -- it has always come on eventually. -Like with other Joyo pedals, it's very difficult to read the text on the pedals in certain lighting. I also own the Joyo Vision and it's the same way. And now, for the positive. ... AMBIENT REVERBS ARE NICE -I'm not a huge fan of the shimmer on this one. It has a very synthetic sound and is a bit harsh, even with the highs turned down. It's not bad, but I much prefer the shimmer on my RV-6 and my Polara. However, I do like the Reverse and Dream modes. The plate reverb is nice, though I do wish it were a little more subtle on the lower settings. Some of these modes just tend to slap you in the face with reverb. OTHER COOL STUFF -Another nice thing is that you are able to turn the mix up all the way so that your initial guitar sound is muted and all you hear is the effect. This is great for ambient swells. -I also like the looks of the pedal and the lights in front and back. They give it a nice, modern look, and if you like LEDs -- like I do -- it's a nice aesthetic touch. FOUR-STARS INSTEAS OF THREE? Overall, I struggled with the star rating on this. If all you want is an ambient reverb that whacks you over the head with those sounds, then consider this a four-star pedal However, if, like me, you are looking for something a bit more versatile that, in addition to lush ambient tones, also provides very utilitarian types of gigging reverbs like plate and spring, then stick with the three-star review.

Outstanding.
This has replaced my Rat pedal. Instantly has more of that โ nastyโ feel to it as where I always felt the rat was a bit safer sounding in comparison. If you dial it back enough it sounds pretty damn good with a swollen pickle. I would also put this above the recently released fender Godzilla ( based off another pedal I know) but I equally love that pedal too.

Rigel preamp - Budget brutality
Iโve been using this for a few months now, at home, in rehearsal and in a live setting with a metallic hardcore band. I honestly couldnโt be happier with it, unbelievable value for money. Thereโs a ton of variables you can adjust to get the tone you want. I put it through an Orange pedal baby 100, a Joyo Argos overdrive in front as well and it sounds killer. Iโd have to really think long and hard about buying a more expensive pedal now, canโt see past this.
