Buy this. Buy it now. As someone who religiously follows Rick Steves when it comes to travel, this was a must buy for my trip to Scotland. He gives great ideas for itinerary, restaurants, places to stay and things to see. You can't go wrong grabbing this book. It is packed with great information for a first timer or someone who is returning.

High Level “most visited” spots only
Meh. I understand this is a “best of” travel book so I knew everything wouldn’t be in the roughly 275 pages. There is a lot of big chunks of Scotland missing though. After doing a lot of additional research, I realized this. A friend lent me her 2023 Rough Guides to Scotland (about 600 pages) and I actually used that book a lot more and thought it very helpful in planning out our trip. The RS book is good if you want to learn and plan for all the busiest places, but I encourage looking elsewhere in Scotland. I actually got a lot of great advice on the Rick Steves travel forum on the website (free). Happy travels!

Rick Steves' Best of Scotland...
Want to start an argument? Publish a Best of Scotland guidebook that doesn't include the reviewer's favorite locations. That said, this book presents Rick Steves' own best selections, and is worth a good long look. A variety of wonderful Scottish locations are presented which may be matched against the enterprising traveler's interests. Where the shoe fits, feel free to wear it. Like other Rick Steves books, read the entire guide before committing to your own journey. The guide provides admirable detail on a number of interesting locations, backed by color, and black and white, photographs, maps, and diagrams. It should be noted that the transportation chart in the back of the book does not include Aberdeen, which has excellent air, ground, rail and ferry links. Well recommended.

The information in the book is very good. But the font size is quite small.
The reviews of the book were great, but there was one review the person said the print size was so small it couldn't be read so sent back. The print is very small, but OK for my husband. I bought reading glasses and all was good. The information in the book cuts to the quick and is very good. Though the info on accommodations was not as good and I found myself checking out the on-line reservations.
