航空戦を扱った本書では1945年1月から終戦に至る、ソ連を中心にした連合軍とドイツ軍の戦いを地上軍と空軍面で解説しています。　本は序論、時系列に主要事項、攻撃側（ソ連、ポーランド、チェコ等）の状況、防衛側（ドイツ空軍）の状況、戦いの目標、戦いの推移、後日談という構成になっています。　ソ連とドイツの空軍は開戦時とは異なり、乗員、機体の質も差が少なったばかりでなく、運用する機数がドイツとソ連では1桁違う状態で、ドイツ軍は制空権を握られている多発爆撃機はほぼ使用できない中、ミステル、戦闘爆撃機やJu87GやHs-129とJu87D+複葉機による夜間爆撃位しか打撃力が無くなっていて、他方クールランドやベルリンでの包囲された友軍に物資を投下する輸送部隊の奮闘ぶりに注目です。　この時期の戦いの厳しさは両軍の戦闘機エースに戦死者が出たり、Ju87Gのタンクキラーのルーデル大佐やソ連の急降下爆撃のパイオニアのイワン　ボールビン大佐が対空砲の犠牲になることで理解できます。　また勝者のソ連空軍司令官のノビコフ元帥や参謀長で副司令官のフダャノフ元帥が戦後NKVDに逮捕され後者は処刑されるなど当時のソ連の不条理も描かれています。空戦戦果の照合は残念ながら行われておらず、両軍の申告戦果だけになっています。　本にはモノクロ写真多数（30頁のHs-126をビュッカー　ユングマンとしたミスや、78頁の明らかにLa-5の平面形で白十字をしたFW190とした謎の写真、プロパガンダ用のコラ写真もあります）と地図多数でインアクションイラスト2葉が視覚情報を与えてくれます。

By the beginning of 1945, an outnumbered Germany was fighting for its very survival. The Allies were closing in from all directions, including on the Eastern Front. There, the Soviet Union marshalled overwhelming forces to take Berlin. Those forces included a rebuilt and modernized Soviet Air Force that was finally the equal of its German counterpart.This Osprey Air Campaign entry details the capabilities of the Soviet Air Force in 1945 and how it was used to help overwhelm Germany, including a stubborn but dwindling Luftwaffe. The author provides an interesting analysis of how aircraft were allocated to missions, in many cases very differently than the Soviet Union's western allies. The text includes lots of period photographs and modern illustrations and battle diagrams. Well recommended to students of the Second World War.
