It has brightened it some but I still have some light brown patches from years of the Florida sun, but I'm hoping with continued use, those will fade. It does have a slight odor. To me its a subtle odor; not harsh as some have posted. It goes on a little sticky and stays tacky on the face for a good while so I would not suggest applying it just before preparing to apply make up - otherwise all your powders will not go on smoothly and will look blotchy. Give it a good hour before applying or put it on at night time; before bed. It states to keep it in a dark area so I keep mine in the refrigerator (still in its box)!
