Clear and Easy....ideal for beginners and returners to the flute.
Clear, concise and has all the information to get started. Not just handling the flute and getting a sound out of the thing but also a great beginner's guide to reading music notation that makes sense; relating to the keys in visual form as well as written. Ideal for the likes of me who finds images a great aid to learning anything academic! As a returning student {40 years!!!!} I have dusted down my old Yamaha YFL 22N silver plated student flute that's been sitting in a cupboard since I was at university in the 80's {I nearly gave it to a local charity shop in a mad fit of clearing the decks!!!} and needed something directed at adult learners that wouldn't put me off. A lot of other books/programs are good or just a tad too intense/complicated but after quite a bit of research I think I've found the best. I've given it a read through and luckily I can actually get a decent sound out of my flute now and its jogging my memory but even if I was a complete learner this would certainly give a kick start. There's a downloadable audio file to accompany {streaming or 'zip' files....think I'll keep to streaming! }I've not actually done this yet so can't comment but hopefully of benefit. One last word {or two}.....text, images and music notations are lovely and big. The one thing I find really tricky is the smaller printed books when I'm trying to focus on my playing....never great when deciphering notes......and I have 20/20 vision. If like me you're a tad older than when I first started....12yrs, then I highly recommend this book.
