Wish I Had Gotten This Sooner
UPDATE No. 2: Literally while I typed the update below, the power cut off for a SECOND time for about 20 seconds. The Tripp-Lite unit just hummed along, with the digital readout displaying successive screens showing the level of power consumption and estimated run time remaining (in my case about 15 minutes). I completed the typing and submitted the update while the power was still out. This unit is definitely doing what I wanted it to do.UPDATE: Very high winds outside tonight and predictably the incoming power cut out for about 10 seconds. I am pleased to report that this unit handled the problem with flying colors: My computer equipment never knew that there was any interruption in the power. In other words, this device did exactly what it was supposed to. This is the first unit I have had that would handle this kind of outage without the computer equipment being affected in some way. It's expensive but worth it.ORIGINAL REVIEW: In these COVID days my home office has to be "ready for prime time." Unfortunately, here in Los Angeles the power can be a bit unreliable. I have used regular UPS units but often they will make things worse when there is a very brief power hit of some kind. I finally got this unit to insulate my computer setup from the vagaries of the power company. With "dual conversion," the computer equipment is running on batteries all the time. The only thing that is lost when the commercial power fails is the charging of the batteries. A few minutes of run time is plenty for my needs, as the typical outage here is measured in seconds (or less) to maybe a few minutes in rare cases. Those brief glitches are enough to mess up the running computers, and I just need something to bridge those gaps. This is the smallest unit offered (1 kVa) and with my Lenovo computer, two large monitors, and the cable modem/router, the display indicates that I am running at about 15% capacity with an estimated run time of about 90 minutes. That is more than satisfactory. The fan noise is definitely noticeable, and is reminiscent of the fan in an 80s-era computer tower (or a laser printer while actively printing). Presumably these units are designed for use in a server room where noise is not a major consideration. It would be nice is the fan speed was thermally controlled so that it could run more quietly when less cooling is needed. It's not the end of the world, however. The box is big, and cannot be tucked away as easily as a typical switchover UPS of the same power rating. Everything seems very solid, and the front panel display is easy to read (and interpret with the help of the instruction manual). Setup was very easy out of the box -- plug in the line cord, connect the equipment to the outlets in the rear, and when the display shows that the initial startup is complete (about 20 seconds), hold the "on" button for two or three seconds and power is delivered to connected equipment.I'm not using any management software or other options so I cannot comment on those. I just need something to keep the computer going when high winds start whipping around the power lines outside. So far this unit is handling that satisfactorily.

I wanted to give it 5 stars AND
I wanted to give it 5 stars AND that's exactly what I'm going to do. :)If you came to this page, you probably already know the difference between good UPS systems and "not so good" ones, so I'm not going to go into features and specs details, given that all this information is available in the product description and on manufacturer's website. What I'm going to focus on is why I chose this system over competing brands. The most important factor to me was battery extensibility for extended runtime. Of course, even if external batteries are not supported by a UPS, you could simply connect an external battery pack in parallel to internal one (optionally connecting an external charger) after adding some wires and connectors, but what's appealing in this product is that it supports extensibility from the factory, both hardware and software-wise.Keep in mind, that different VA-rated models use different voltages and connectors for external batteries. 1000VA uses 24V, 1500VA/2200VA uses 48V, and 3000VA uses 72V.So I got connectors , terminals , wires , crimping tool , 4 deep cycle AGM 12V batteries, and battery equalizer (currently unavailable, so search for "Battery equalizer HA02" using your favorite search engine), and built my own battery pack.Another important factor is software support. That's probably the area, where Tripp-Lite lacks the most, but still comes ahead of others. For the most part, software is OK, but lacks a few minor features. Like the other reviewer mentioned, it is not possible to configure automatic load shedding. However, I discovered that using SNMPWEBCARD (I have a older version, non java-based, but most likely the newer ones are the same) it's possible to set it up.Also, software allows to setup alerts to be sent via email or text to your mobile phone. Most carriers, at least in the US, from what I know, support accepting text messages as an email message. For example, if you have T-Mobile and send an email to [email protected], where "xxxxxxxxxx" is your 10-digit phone number with area code, you will receive a text message. Also, software is flexible enough to allow custom event handlers. I.e. you can write a script or program, which will get executed when a particular event occurs. This helps with extending functionality of software. For example, I not only want to shutdown other computers when power goes out, but also wake them up when the power is restored. So I wrote a program that sends WoL (wake on LAN) packet and hooked it up to "power restored" event.Speaking of SNMPWEBCARD. Like I said, I have an older model and it's not Java-based. It's a generation 2 card and supports firmware versions up to 12.04.0045. I did try the newer version (Gen 3), but I was barely able to get the web interface, based on heavy Java applets, to work. This required seriously lowering some Java security settings on my PC, and I wasn't comfortable keeping those settings that way, so I returned the card and kept using the old one. Bonus is that I can access the SNMPWEBCARD web interface from my phone when needed. What was NOT a factor to me, was the noise because I was gong to keep this UPS in an unoccupied area. I knew from reviews of similar models that this UPS was going to be a bit noisy. And It was - I measured about 50dBA with my sound level meter at about 2ft from the front panel. That's not super noisy, but will probably be annoying in a quiet room.As a bonus, I'm attaching the image from my scope of a perfect sine-wave that this UPS produces.

Customer service please
Unit would not work when taken from box. Called 800 number and gave them serial # of unit. Tech said that the serial # stated that the unit had been manufactured over 5 years ago and the warranty was good for 2 years. The batteries were shot and could not be recharged. The tech said that they would send us new batteries free of charge but we must send them prove of purchase (our invoice). The tech said he would send a ticket # on the problem to us and we could reply with a copy of the invoice. He took down all of our info and email address and we haven't heard any more from him. We had purchased this UPS unit for equipment needed at an large occasion and of course when it didn't perform it was a hassle obtaining an alternate unit at the last minute.
