Used on my meadow in combination with a scythe...
Now that I've given my lawn over to meadow flowers I only need to mow it a couple of times a year. Starting the petrol mower so infrequently was often a challenge for me, and tall vegetation was a challenge even for the petrol mower. It quickly became apparent that my motor mower was no longer the best tool for the job - Time and money spent in getting fuel and routine maintenance looked less worthwhile compared to just a little bit more time and effort spent in the garden. Indeed for my 150m2 patch of green the the only advantage I could see from the petrol mower was its ability to create neat stripes... but that's no longer my aesthetic; swaying flowers and butterflies and bees are. My solution has been to firstly start with a scythe. The benefit of a scythe is that it's faster than a strimmer and, done well it piles up the grass to one side in a long line that's easy to gather. Once the hay cut has been taken, that's when this push mower comes into its own, keeping any further growth trim and tidy from autumn until the following growing season. During the summer months the push mower is used to mow a neat path and maintain a short tidy looking meadow border; a mere stroll pushing the mower from the shed, around the boundary and back. This can often take less time than it would just to prep and start the petrol mower after few months idle! My front lawn is still mostly grass, however, next year the high 4" cutting level of the fiskars will enable me to plant low growing wildflowers among the grass and to maintain it as a low flowering grassy meadow. This will render my petrol mower entirely redundant. SO! having decided on a push mower the Staysharp Max seemed a worthwhile investment on account of its power efficiency - why make things hard for myself! I rate it 5 stars for all the positive reasons listed in other reviews. I subtract no stars for issues listed by others, particularly complaints regarding long grass - that's what a scythe's for. Scythe + Push mower + Rake takes up a LOT less space than Weed Wacker + Motor Mower + Leaf Blower + Fuel + Oil + Tools + Ear Defenders + Safety wear & a lot less maintenance - we can leave all that to commercial gardeners.

We used the reel mower for the first time today and we were pleased with the results. The overall built feels sturdy and assembly was surprisingly easy. It might be more expensive than other brands but it does feel like this will last for a while.

I've owned this model for about ten years now. Things I regard as positives - (1) It costs less than most quality gas or electric mowers. (2) Burn more calories cutting the grass. (3) It is environmentally friendly. (4) It costs much less to maintain compared to gas mowers - no need to purchase gas or oil. (5) This design seems to spin and generate more power than just my manual push, probably related to how they have the chain linked to the wheels to blades. (6) Lasted ten years before any part broke (7) Can direct the cut grass to be thrown front or back - I prefer front so it sort of gets that double cut into smaller pieces (not mulching though) (8) It has a pretty good cut on the grass, not as good as gas powered mowers if you are looking for that manicured, picture perfect lawn shown in real estate ads, BUT, cuts well for a functional, nice lawn. So over-all, the last ten years I've saved money, burned more calories, and helped the environment..., that's a win, win, win.. :) For negatives, which don't really bother me, but could for others: (1)Takes longer to cut the grass than all powered mowers. (2) For a really nice cut, you need to cut one way, then turn around and cut the other way over the same space. (3) I have somewhat steep hills in my yard, and you will definitely get a workout, especially if the grass is thicker or taller. (4) In some case, similar to gas powered mowers which will clog with thick, tall, or wet grass, you'll need to cut once at a raised blade setting, then again at the lower height. (5) You will need to muscle it to get through thicker grass, but I view that as a good workout. (6) It will not cut TALL grass, so you'll need to weed whack those extra tall stragglers after you do the level cut for the full lawn. (7) Unlike gas powered mowers, you can't just place it over a tight spot, such as a corner of a yard gate to cut the grass. You need movement to roll/cut the grass. Again, I need to weed whack a little more to cut grass in tight corners. I'm 55 and healthy, so I don't mind a little extra muscle work and time in cutting the lawn, plus I'm frugal, so I don't mind the negatives and really like the positives. BUT, if I was older, not steady on my feet, didn't have the time (like I used to with my previous long commuting job), have a lot of hills in a much larger yard, or if I really wanted that perfectly manicured lawn in one mowing, then the negatives would weigh much heavier.

Just push, so easy to use. Well made. Very happy with it.

They advertise this as being 60 percent easier to push. Yeah, if you've been pushing a broken riding mower with a flat tire, this would likely be easier, but it's not compared to my old 20" Scott reel mower. That being said, it cuts great so far. These all work good when new, but almost a year in I haven't seen any fall off. Back to the easy push part. It has a faster spin speed(taller ratio), and heavier spinning blade, so it does chop through things that would stop my old one. But you can't escape physics, getting that heavier, faster spinning blade going, and keeping it going under a steady load, takes some grunt. This also means that, even if you are tall, you have to keep the handle set fairly low to stay "behind" it. If you set it too high, you'll tend to push it over the mower, rather than the mower forward. And having the main wheels in the back is a maneuvering nightmare when near walls and fences. The handle is about the same width as the mower, so trying to turn away from something means the handle wants to drag on the wall or fence, which leads to being "sucked in", the need to just stop, back up, and take a new run at it. Now, all that being said, it cuts great, even though it's 2" narrower that my old one, it's faster because I can take full cuts, without overlapping to get what it missed on the last pass. And it is a very well made machine, what else would you expect from Fiskars. Cut height changes are simple, handle height not so much. You need to pull off two clevis clips, then move the handle base to a different set of holes. This is best done in the driveway, so you can see where you dropped the clips in the middle of the process. Height is one lever, flip and click, done. And on any of these mowers, don't forget to spray the blades with CRC or WD-40 when you finish cutting. Rust will dull the blade way faster than cutting the grass does.
