Q: How often must the blade be changed?

Honestly about 6-8 months to keep it working properly. All depends how often you use it I go 2-3 times a month sometimes. A 15 minutes use would prolly take you to a year. But hey you notice when it needs to get changed it makes this weird noise. Great product

No, do not use it above the neck.

Q: Why does this cost so much? I see what looks like the exact same on mfg website for less than half the price.

With Phillips Norelco, they make a lot of very similar packages, some with ridiculously minor differences and others are fundamentally different and I was fooled too. There's the one with a cylindrical foil which is loved and cheap, and there's the ione-blade which is also loved and both come in a hundred different types of packaging including different accessories and this is important, some have Li ion batteries and there'll be a cheaper one close by but if you read it, it takes a AA battery. It's go through AA batteries like tissues. So my suggestion is to be very careful and make sure you're comparing the exact same thing. And if you do find a much better price on something, come back and tell us, ok?
