Sterner once again brings to life an often overlooked but crucial theater of the American Revolution – small unit battles on the western frontier. His narrative is well balanced in exposition and story pacing, so it reads like a novel. At the same time, Sterner does not sacrifice historical or academic accuracy, as his work is richly sourced. Achieving that balance is a great benefit to all readers, whether hardcore history academics or history enthusiasts. This work is also a great snapshot of the formative years of George Rogers Clark, whose legacy is often misinterpreted and misunderstood. Highly recommended, and a great companion read to his other books : Anatomy of a Massacre and Battle of Upper Sandusky.

Many lesser known facts regarding the exploits of Clark during the revolutionary War in Ibdiana and Ilinois.

Eric Sterner’s most recent book "Till the Extinction of this Rebellion" is an excellent analysis of a complex campaign in the American Revolution. George Rogers Clark’s Illinois Campaign is almost equally steeped in praise and condemnation, but Sterner cuts through the discourse and presents facts in an unbiased manner. "Till the Extinction of this Rebellion" captures the grit of eighteenth-century frontier warfare and reminds readers of some of the incredible circumstances pioneers, soldiers, and Native Americans alike had to overcome.

Eric Sterner’s book exposes readers to a part of American history rarely spoken of and this is greatly appreciated! As an Ohioan, it is amazing to learn about the Revolution occurring in my backyard. His recounting of history is unbiased and told from multiple perspectives, a feat which should be applauded!
