Fish Mate 500GUV Gravity Pond Filter - UV + Biological Filtration for Clearer Water, Ideal for Ponds up to 500 Gallons

This is my second Fish Mate and it too works like a champ. The water in the pool was very unclear and full of algae. We did drain it and took everything out but the new water was still pretty bad. It said it would take about a month to really clear up. By the next day it was already much clearer. It is been several week and I can now see the bottom. The pool looks great and my water lilies are flourishing. It is very easy to hook up. You do need a pump and a hose to hook up to the Fish Mate and pump. I already had it since we had one working before. If you don't mind having the Fish Mate sitting out on a flat surface, I highly recommend it. The price is right and it works.

I moved into a house with a small pre-fab fish pond. The filter was one that sat at the bottom of the water,and to clean it you had to reach in and pull this mucky thing out. It was one of my least favorite chores. This product was just what the doctor ordered! Along with the FISH MATE 500 G-UV, I also ordered the TOTAL POND DD11560 560GPH POND PUMP and the TOTAL POND PUMP PRE-FILTER. Now when I need to clean,I simply reach in and slide the small tubular foam pre-filter off the pump,give it a quick hose off,and slip it back into place. The FISH MATE 500 is just as easy! First,it sits outside the pond,which I love. Second, you simply lift up the lid and at a glance you can see how efficient it is running by the way the water runs over a "stepped" interior wall. The highest step means it's running at about 500GPH, if it is only running over the next step down- 400GPH etc... So in other words, if I lift the lid and find the water only running over a lower step, I know it needs to be cleaned! And with this filter it is as simple as hosing off a special foam pad that lays over these special ceramic-looking bio pellets. My pond stays nice and clean,and I no longer have to pull a stinky box filter from the bottom of the water. It's great.

Purchased this pond filter for our small, 125 or so gallon pond. It was difficult to find a filter for a small pond that could be used reasonably well with a smaller pump, but this one fit the bill. I hooked it up with very few problems (took a couple of tries to get the right size tubing), and I've never set up any pond equipment prior to this one. Our pond had been completely neglected for over a year since the house was unoccupied for awhile before we bought it and moved in. After setting it up, the pond was crystal clear within 24-48 hours. Cleaning is easy and it's kept the pond clean ever since. The 5 goldfish seem pretty happy and healthy as well as all the plant life and snails too.

I have a 500 gallon pond and use this as the 2nd filter that I can clean up the dirty stuff every week. With the light that comes with to reduce the agile this is the perfect combination but I am not sure Fish Mate still produces this model. I purchased my first one back in 5 years ago and I got my 2nd one 4 months ago at $169.99 for replacement. The performance of this item is so good that I got the 3rd one for my further use just in case when I saw the price became $151.85 in June this year. Now the price dropped even more to $123.99. That is a great deal. If you want to have an easy to maintain filter, this is the one but I think Fish Mate is no longer manufacturing this model. Got it before all the inventory in the market was gone. I use a plastic box to cover this filter to keep it not directly under the sun.

Pond with Koi and goldfish and filters alone would not control algae. bought this along with a submerged to add to underwater filter. Between the two, while having to clean the filters every other day they are keeping the pond crystal clear. Guessing that they are doing such a great job keeping lilies from growing, don't have to worry about them taking over the pond. Extreme worthwhile investment and btw easy to clean.

Love this. Had a weird algae bloom I couldn’t get under control this spring. It caused my pond to go from crystal clear to green and murky. After less than a week of running this, plus cleaning sponge filter two times, my pond is officially crystal clear again. Used beneficial bacteria pellets and this alone. 10/10

UV Clears up water quickly. Easy to install and clean filter. Lasts many years and is a Great product.
