How do i open the sprayer? it shows an up arrow, but i pulled upward and it broke the first sprayer. no amount of fiddling with the second worked.

Do not pull forward. The arrow is pointing to a small wheel in the neck of the bottle. Turn the tiny little wheel clockwise. You only need to do this once. Now when you pump the sprayer, it will spray.
