Based on an idea by Roberto Saviano, from his international best-selling book, Gomorrah and the film of the same name, directed by Matteo Garrone, comes an event-series from Italy focused on the fierce Neapolitan crime organisation, the Camorra. Set in the suburbs of Naples, focusing on organized crime and the relationships between gangsters, drug dealers, and ordinary people, Gomorrah depicts street-level crime and its hierarchical organization from the pavement, all the way up to regional government offices. The Savastano clan, led by the Godfather, Pietro (Fortunato Cerlino) and his loyal wife, Lady Imma (Maria Pia Calzone) reign over Naples with the assistance of his obedient and self-confident right-hand man, Ciro The Immortal (Marco D Amore), who must teach their only son Gennaro - the heir to the Savastano gilded throne, the brutal and bloody ways of their clan. As Gennaro transforms into, and beyond, what Ciro and Pietro could have ever wished for him to become, power struggles ensue, and the balance of power shifts back and forth with devastating consequences for all involved. As the era of the Savastano clan looks to be crumbling, Ciro and Gennaro s fates will intertwine as they spread their criminal links beyond their homeland, encountering new illicit ways to trade in drugs and thrive on the spoils, despite both of them being all but destroyed in the process.

Violent but high quality drama
This series isn't for the faint hearted as the level of violence is truly shocking. It is also very chilling as you see people get sucked into the mafia system and the gradual destruction of their lives/souls. However it is also drama of the highest quality due to the excellent story-lines and cast. The multiple twists and turns keep you guessing what will happen next - absolutely gripping. I found myself watching 3 or 4 episodes back to back as I just had to know what happened next. Can't wait for series 4!

Incredible television.
Probably the best series I’ve seen on tv. If you can take the subtitles(which I actually think forces you to watch it properly)this has to be up there with the best shows ever made. If there’s a slight negative, maybe it’s too violent and graphic for some but for me this just made it even better.

Compelling ....
This is far beyond what I was expecting. Against Gomorrah, Godfather films were like fairy tales. We are almost at the end and as yet, I haven't been able to identify with a single character - they are all absolutely evil, violent, no feelings of humanity or anything resembling a heart. But it is watchable, well acted and we will watch to the end, if only to see who, if anyone, gets their comeuppance. The one overwhelming factor is although it is set in Naples, it is not the Naples everyone is familiar with. Apart from one or two churches, Naples is shown as a distressed and run down city. Not surprising judging by the content of Gomorrah. Stick it out - if you dare.

If in doubt view on Prime before purchase!
Turned out that we hated Gomorrah and regretted buying it.Only watched 3 episodes.Tried to get the seller to accept a return but as it was unsealed they understandably refused.Moral - if in doubt read the reviews and if possible view on Prime or YouTube before purchase. The seller is not at fault and deserves 10/10 for prompt response to our questions.

Utter disappointment.
Promising plot line, but Aaaah, disc 4 containing episodes 10-12 of season one leading to the season conclusion is a duplicate of disc 3 - too late to return.

Great
If you don't mind reading sub titles (it's made by Sky Italia) then this is one of the best box sets around - hard hitting, not for the wimps - brilliant !

A superb edgy drama involving the families.
Compulsive watching, clear sub titles but not good to learn Italian from. [Memories of a Greek Hotelier who self taught English from Fools and Horses tapes - Kushty!] I loved it - great television and not silly like Montalbano..

The best reality TV-serie?
This world is not the most pleasant place these days and this TV-serie shows that very well. The actors, the script, the photo, the music is just perfect. When you look at it with one 5:1 system it almost feels you are there as a bonus.
