TL;DR - Great camera, great video and great tech support. Difficult setup and included power cable is too short.I just purchased two R4s and have them connected to my Synology NAS using the Surveillance Station software. If you don't want to pay for cloud storage or need more than 8 hours, this is a GREAT solution. I'm sure if you're in the market for storing security footage you'll be able to find PLENTY of use cases for a NAS. Mine stores all my photos, Plex media server, and my own personal cloud for file storage. However, that isn't important for this comment. What is important is how good the camera is.I found out a benefit of the camera the very first night after setting it up. Two of our cats decided to have an all-out brawl and the whole thing was caught on camera. It turns out the kind and meek cat during the day is a real bully at night; sneaky bastard. The video was crisp even though it was completely dark and needed the IR lamps to function. It simply looked like a black-n-white hi-res video and not what is usually a dark grainy video from other cameras. Very impressed. Audio was good as well.One issue I had was the setup. It requires an app for your phone or a plugin on your browser. not that big of an issue, but it feels like the Mac is an afterthought for the developers. I couldn't get the IP to be static or have it find my hidden wi-fi network. Instead I was stuck with a DHCP issued address and I had to un-hide my network, configure, then re-hide it. The app for the phone is mediocre at best. Since I have the DS Cam software from Synology, I don't see any need to use the Foscam software unless they improve it.I contacted support for the issues and, to my surprise, the contacted me back in less than a day. They pointed me to the needed software for my Mac and the the configuration for my second camera was much much easier. I applied a static IP and set up the wi-fi without having to unhide my network. The software should have either been easier to find on their site (it wasn't with the rest of the downloads for the camera) or should have been referenced in the setup guide. Regardless, the support was top-notch and since setup is usually a one-time thing, it doesn't affect the overall score.The other issue I had was the length of the power adapter. The one included is only about 5' in length. This is only long enough if the outlet is close to the table where you want to place the camera. If you want to mount it on the ceiling or further away from an outlet you're out of luck. Again, I contacted support and they replied within a few hours informing me of extension cords available here on Amazon. I ordered two (2) black 10' extension cords for about $6 each. Not bad and the total length of 15' should be plenty. Since the kit comes with a wall-mount and dry wall screws the company obviously understands people will be moving this to other locations than a close table. They should include the extension in the box IMO. Still not a reason to lower the score.If you're looking for a hi-res video security camera, you could do a lot worse than the Foscam R4. And no, they did not pay me for this review. However, I am more than willing to accept another camera or two as a thank you :)

I continue to be impressed by Foscam cameras! I have the R2, which I really liked, so I decided to go all out and give this one a try too.I mostly use these cameras inside my house to watch my small pets while I am away. My main concern is actually at night, because they are nocturnal. I am always a little leery of getting cameras because if they don't work well in the dark, they aren't useful to me. This cameras truly does allow me to see every little detail of what my fuzzbutts are doing and who is doing what in their little homes. I can see them very clearly, and I can also hear them and talk to them. Too bad they don't really like it when I do that. Haha. Truly, I like them more than they like me. <3Installation/setup of the camera was pretty smooth, and the app is super easy to use. I can use the app on my phone to watch from anywhere. I can also change the view of the camera in the app, which is very useful (and a feature that was not present in my more expensive camera by another company, which I will not be buying again). I don't often have to change the view because the viewing angle is pretty wide. Even at night, this camera allows me to see all of what I usually want to see without having to move it up, down, side to side, etc. But if I want to, I can turn it!There is also a whole bunch of other settings that I can imagine I will find useful in the future. I can set the camera to move continuously, and of course I can have it alert me to movement in the room (and it stores the alerts so I can check them at a later time!). I can snap a photo (which the app saves for me), I can flip the image, I can change to night mode or day mode or simply have it on auto. I can adjust the image quality/smoothness, and I can have both of my foscam cameras on one app. I can even name them by different rooms of the house for easy reference. All of these features come at no extra charge. I do believe this camera is going to save me a lot of money on house sitters when I'm out of town. :)Overall, I cannot think of anything more I would ever want in a camera like this. I actually wouldn't have been able to think of half of the things that Foscam already included in this camera. Highly recommended!!
