Saved my hand, and possibly my house.
You're looking to buy an oven mitt, or else why would you be reading this review? You should look no further. THIS is the oven mitt you need. Tonight, as I write this, the upper half of my right arm is burned, but my hand and wrist are completely fine. I had a grease fire tonight, with a wok that went up in 3 to 5 foot flames. The whole wok, in flames, reaching above my range, to the over-the-range microwave, and even just above that. And about 18" wide. I forgot I was heating oil, and heard the crackling from the next room. I write this regardless of the dozens of comments this post may get about what you SHOULD do in a grease fire, and how silly it was to forget I was cooking. I admit, this was not my finest day. But, when I discovered the flames, and that my entire kitchen may catch on fire, and knowing I didn't have a fire extinguisher -- I put on my oven mitt (this one) and grabbed the wok, which was COMPLETELY ON FIRE, and held it for approximately 2 seconds while I transported it from range to sink where I doused it under water. What happened next was lucky -- the fire went out, and after all the smoke alarms went off, and then silenced, I realized my arm was burnt, though not badly, but probably 1st degree burns. My hand, however, was completely fine -- like on any other day. You can actually see a line from where the oven mitt left off and where the burn starts. And crazy enough, I never even felt the heat through the mitt as I picked up the wok. The oven mitt that saved my hand and possibly my house: COMPLETELY FINE. I expected it to be melted, or something! But no, you'd never know it had happened. If this happens to you, and you never really know what's going to happen in the future and if you'll have a kitchen fire and need to react extremely quickly -- you will be singing the praises along with me. This was, without a doubt, and I mean... absolutely... the BEST purchase I've ever made in my life. So you've found your oven mitt. Now, you need to add it to your cart. And while you're doing that, make sure you add 2, because this is only ONE mitt. It's worth the price. Trust me.

Test Kitchen fav and mine too
I purchased two to replace some restaurant supply store gloves I bought that were no better than discount store gloves. Split and burned through. I find these gloves (had them a little while now) have both pluses and minuses. On the minus side: Sometimes I find that they are a little bulky when removing a pan from the oven. In order to get a good grip on the pan, if using just one glove, I have had the thumb extend into the bake area and touch the baked item causing marring of the bake goods. I don't feel I have the smallest of hands, but, from my experience, I think if you have small hands you may have some "excess" glove sticking out above the where you thumb and finger tips are that may be a little cumbersome. Sometimes the liner seems a bit twisted/bunched from previous wear, but that is being picky as straightens once you have your hand in. Not the prettiest thing to look at (for those that have their gloves stored in the open for quick use etc.). Guess the above list is a bit picky, but just my experiences. Plus side: The vast majority is a plus so far. Not had any issues with heat transfer to my hands. 550 degree broil pan out of the oven no problem and did not have to rush to find a spot for it. Clean really easily under the tap. Grip on heavy pans and trays is really good and the silicone makes it so that they don't slide and twist around like a standard cloth type glove can allow. Really impressed with them so far. Can't comment on longevity as yet. Had them a while, used them quite a bit and they still look new, but unsure how they will hold up after years of use. I guess they can age and come apart eventually, but at present the feeling is that unless you cut them or something they are going to last a good while. Hope that helps!

These mitts are excellent. Good grip
These mitts are excellent. Good grip, the insulating terry cloth liner does a good job of keeping the heat out even when damp, the liner is removable and washable, the silicone mitts are easy to clean and they stand up to high temps (500+F). We tried another pair of silicone gloves before these mitts and they were problematic. I won't go into it, but if we had started with these mitts instead of those poor-performing gloves we may not know exactly how great these mitts stack up to the competition.

The last oven mitt you will ever have to buy
I wanted an oven mitt that is steam and waterproof beside being heat proof, and these gloves fill the bill. You don't have to worry about scalding yourself when you drain off the pasta water or lift the lid off a steaming pot. But...they lack flexibility, because unlike other oven gloves, this is not your normal five-fingered one. It's a two-sectioned oven mitt: your four fingers fit into one section and your thumb into the other section. This arrangement makes it difficult to grasp things like handles on a large, heavy pot or a hot bowl of soup. You feel like you're holding onto them with your fingertips. So, I subtracted one star from my rating. The oven mitt should last a long time, because it is made of silicone. I paid about $20 for ONE glove, but the protective aspects of the product make it worth the money. I forgot to mention it has a removable washable cotton lining to keep your hands from getting sweaty while wearing them, because neither air nor any liquid can penetrate the glove. Also, the palm of the mitt is ribbed making it slip proof. And, there is a small ring at the wrist end to hang the mitt on a hook if you like.

Great Oven Mitt
Many years ago, my mother bought one of the first Orka mitts on the market. It was the best oven mitt I had ever seen. The hands were grippy, cool, and easy to clean. It was, however, about twice as thick as the OrkaPlus, without a lining, and fairly stiff. The OrkaPlus has improved on the original Orka in just about every way: it's comfortable, flexible, easy to use, and safe to handle extremely cookware. If you haven't tried one yet, do it. You won't regret it.

Not like orca mitts at all
Unfortunately, although I LOVE my full thickness silicone orca mitts, I have to say do not buy this. The outer silicone is just too thin. I washed it the day it arrived and then went to (gently) put the inner mitt clips back into the inside of the outer silicone mit but the outer glove ripped before the tabs could seat. So I have a brand new ripped and useless glove. I can tell you that the silicone is so thin that it is comical. Save your money and buy a thicker silicone glove. I am going to see if I can return this.

Great oven mitt
I use this one daily in a professional and I like it alot. Some of my staff not so much. I cook much bacon in my oven and I really like this one for that as it will not absorb the grease from the bacon. I should say that I have one of these and another type of oven mitt that is a fabirc. I mention this as this Orka can be a little slippery when grease is involved, so I like having the cloth mitt to help with stability. One issue that I have had with this mitt is that there is a small tare where one of the buttons gets pushed through. I sure one of my staff did this as they did not buy the item. If holding a hot pan for a long (30-45 seconds) time this mitt will get hot. I would buy this again

Too small for my average male hands.
First the good news. Yes, I can even hold a very hot cast iron frying pan by the pan's bottom, with barely any sense of heat ). The pan had been off heat for a minute or two, but was still too hot to grip by its handle. Haven't tested with a 400-degree cassarole, and but America's Test Kitchen's review was good enough for me, as far as that goes. In in 2011 they placed this Second (behind a much more expensive Kevlar/Nomex mitt) and named this model "best value." Now the bad news. ATK's review didn't go far enough. It comes in only one size, and although some Amazon reviews have said it's too large, for my fingers it is TOO SMALL. (LL Bean's unisex glove-sizing chart (LL Bean is otherwise unrelated here) says that my hand's 9" circumference is at the smaller end of Large, meaning my hand is probably average size for a man. My middle finger measures 3.5" from the base of it and my forefinger, 5.25" measured parallel (not diagonally) from the crotch of my thumb.) The problem is that the finger area is too short, so that with fingers jammed all the way to the end, the crotch of glove's thumb comes only to my thumb's first knuckle. This, plus the unusual way the rubber flexes (it doesn't so much flex as the palm bulges outward) means I'm holding a handle by only the ends of my fingers, which allows the pan to wobble and feels VERY insecure. Now you know why I held the skillet by its bottom. I'll be returning these before I have a chance to cook that casserole. BUT if it fits you and your cooking habits, it seems like a great glove for the money. And unlike all others, it's impervious to water and oil. While I'm at it, some other concerns: * Be careful removing glove from the display card. The glove is attached to it by a couple of nylon ties through the hole used by the liner buttons. If you hold the card and give the glove a small tug, even just to examine the attachment, the tie might cut from the hole towards the wrist edge. Mine tore about ยผ", stopping where the rubber gets thicker around the edge. Don't know if it would eventually tear through. (I suppose that would still be just cosmetic, except that some people have said that the liner buttons doesn't hold securely when hanging. Could this be why? Otherwise, they seem secure enough.) Just don't be impatient. To remove from the card, snip the ties using a wire snipper or strong scissors, and pull the tie straight out, not rubbing against the rubber. Maybe undo the button, rather than try to force the tie past it. * The online brand selection is very confusing. The gloves I ordered from Amazon.com had the product item number (A823XX*), which Mastrad Customer Service confirms is the only number for their current product of this design (the "Plus" model). Some of the vendors at Amazon say and/or show "Orka," but neither the glove nor the product card says "Orka" anymore. (Except in a really, really tiny picture on the display card!) *The last two digits vary by color -- A82301 is black. * Mastrad also markets a "Pro" model, which is said to be thicker and larger, but I don't know if it's larger in the fingers. If the OrkaPlus fit, I would keep them. As it is, I will return these to Amazon, and think about either Kool-Teks, the Mastrad Pro, or the Mastrad pot-holder made of this stuff. This product is made in "PRC," wherever that is.

Awesome oven mitts
Awesome oven mitts. I have purchased two of these as I burned my hand using a pot holder. These are versatile, easy to use and they protect my hands from being burned. I also love the fact that the inserts are removable and machine washable. These are not the least expensive oven mitts for sure but its worth every penny to me for protecting my hands as I do a lot of cooking.
