That being the reunion of Graham Parker with his pretty much perfect musical team the Rumour together with Dave Cook (musical co-producer.) Parker being of one of the best songwriters continually creating and entertaining throughout the last forty years. To me the book has two unique benefits. Firstly it clearly tabulates, for guitar and vocals, the songs of "Three Chords Good" and "Mystery Glue". Martin is one of the best guitarists in the Rock / Swing / twang genres (impossible to pigeon-hole this musical genre). He was there when the songs were being arranged, recorded and performed. There are diagrams, TABs and pretty detailed illuminations from all the band members about how the songs were built up around Graham's initial demos. I am pretty familiar with the songs (Confession - I am a fan) I'm a pretty reasonable guitarist and it is easy to follow the arrangements - well done. Secondly it is packed with photos and insights that flesh out the book making it a "souvenir" of that four or five year period that lifted the profile of these "pre-punk aging rockers" (I made up that quote!) It's not quite what used to be a coffee-table book but it has a fair bit to interest the casual browser. I've given it 5 stars for the content alone but in all reality it's 4.9 (for me) Only one reason - my preference for such "musical tutorial" books is to be spiral-bound. I'm sure there are many considerations taken into account as to why it's assembled as is - cost and packaging being high on the list. But at least it's clear and accurate - I can scan and print out for my songbooks! Great book buy one for yourself and one for each of your friends!!
