It is an excellent resource and research tool.

The "Literacy Coach's Survival Guide" is a must-have for any new literacy coach. The ideas for working with teachers, setting goals and establishing yourself in a coaching position are practical and clearly laid out. I'm finding myself annotating quite a bit, mulling over the questions and solutions posed, and writing down ideas I'd like to try. Ms. Toll goes step-by-step, walking new coaches through how to set up various types of coaching sessions, relate respectfully to staff and guides her readers around the potential landmines of dealing with differences in a constructive way. I appreciate her student-centered approach and her high respect for what the teachers we serve are thinking and feeling. It's a great launching point for coaches and includes a solid reference section with ideas for furthering your understanding of the topics she presents.

Just as advertised, this book answers the practical questions new (or practicing) literacy coaches may have. Your college will teach you content, but this book will help you consider the practical matters of working with adults.

This was probably the BEST book I've purchased on Literacy coaching. It's ideal for the beginning coach with many practial tips, forms, etc. A must have for the beginning (or veteran) literacy coach.

A very useful reference book

I had to purchase this book for a class and really enjoyed reading it. I am in my last semester of my Master's and look forward to using it as reference.

Toll provides a theoretical approach to coaching. Her suggestions help coaches establish attitudes and flexible perspectives to the coaching position.
