Charley Harper's What's in the Woods? (Nature Discovery Books) Hardcover – April 1, 2013

Beautiful book!!!!! My 1.5 year old LOVES this- it's a great way for him to learn about different birds, plants, and forest animals (jack-in-the-pulpit! scarlet tanager! star nosed mole!), has unique vocabulary, a fun rhyming gate,and a fun search and find at the end. Thanks to this book he now says blue jay, woodpecker, and sings like a cardinal. And of course the wonderful work of Charley Harper. It will grow with him beautifully. I love that it has a little narrative of a walk through the woods- similar to our little "hikes." I could not recommend this book more highly. I will be purchasing the rest of this series!!!!

Beautifully written to emphasize the simplicity of Harper's artwork. My students loved it! Adorable small size that works well for Charley's art. The last page revisits each illustration in one multifold collage where the students enjoyed a game of "I Spy".

Excellent writing and illustrations. I love how several birds that we see in the woods in Ohio were mentioned and illustrated well. I also like how other animals found in the woods were included. I'll be buying more of Charley Harper's books.

I got this book for my 2-year-old son. We are birders, naturalists, and outdoorsmen, and are big fans of Charley Harper. We have several of his other children's books and my son enjoys them all. I have to say though, that for whatever reason, my son isn't that big a fan of this book. It is cute and has beautiful pictures, but I guess it isn't that "exciting". It really is just a little walk through the woods, but no real story line. I like it, and he's okay with it, but he never chooses it himself. I actually really love it at bed time because it is pretty slow and relatively boring, so it lulls him right to sleep. Nice.

I am still deciding whether or not to keep this little darling book for myself or pass it along to a great grandchild.
