Kingdom Come

Not ZEP
The prats in the music press who lambasted this album for being a Led Zepplin ripoff, obviously hadn't had their daily intake of drugs. It is an excellent debut album from the German band, some would say a classic. It really is a pity the record company and music retailers are pricing the CD ridiculously high. Amazon please note, you are losing sales because of this.

LED ZEPPELIN?
I am proberly going to take a lot of criticism for my review of 'Kingdom Comes' debut album but do I care? No, not really, so here it is. When this album came out in the late 1980s some Led Zeppelin fans where in uproar! Why? because Kingdom Clone (get it?), not only sounded like Zeppelin but better (in my opinion), now I am a big fan of rock music however I never liked Led Zeppelin's music much, I think they are overated, really?, yes, really, how dare I say that I hear you scream! "If it wasn't for Led Zeppelin the music I like wouldn't exist!", Zeppelin fans have pointed out to me, I DON'T CARE!, with the exception of 'Stairway To Heven' and 'Kashmir' I really don't like their songs and you can remaster Led Zeppelin's back catalogue as much as you like but they still sound dated, TO ME! Kingdom Comes lead vocalist Lenny Wolf really does sound like Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant but so what?, perhaps Wolfs voice is naturally like Plants, have you thought about that all you naysayers? To me Led Zeppelin never made a album as good as this and thats the probem and, the fact that Lenny Wolf said in a interview that he had never heard of Led Zeppelin, that comment must have been said in jest. If Kingdom Come sound like a 'clone' of Led Zeppelin why don't I like Led Zeppelin's music? I rest my case. So the bottom line, I really like this and would urge everybody to check it out with the right frame of mind so......Check this out!

Hougan gives us a good thriller!
Disenfranchised, as it were, from the "Agency," Jack Dunphy has been reassigned to a desk closet, so to speak. His superiors are more than a little concerned over a case that's been bungled while in London (a "number" he's supposedly had under wraps, surveillance-wise is now dead). Dissatisfied and just more than a little suspicious that his "handlers" are trying to ease him completely out of the picture, Jack begins his own investigation....and from there "Kingdom Come" comes alive. Well, to a point.Granted, author Jim Hougan is compared (whether it's a complement or not remains to be seen) to Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming, and Dan Brown, among others. Certainly, Hougan has chosen the "spy thriller" genre and probably there's not an overabundance of new and brilliant and readable ideas there. Still, Hougan gives it a try and does well, everything taken into consideration.Agent Dunphy has to fight the demons in the closet, so to speak, and he has a partner in Clementine and together they go after the conspirators in the usual do-or-die scenario. Still, Clementine is a nice additive and complements Dunphy admirably.Still: it's spy-thriller-fiction. That said, Hougan has every right to go for it, literarily. "Kingdom Come" is a very readable thriller, and like Ludlum, Flemilng, and Brown, those universal conspiracy cases can only go so far, and like these two, he has to stretch occasionally. Again, it's fiction. It's not a Dan Rather expose or a Bill O'Reilly revelation-it's fiction. And worth the effort. A pleasant read.

I love these guys
I was introduced to Kingdom Come by a work friend some years ago. Now if my mental arithmetic is up to scratch I have 12 of their albums. Quite simply they are my favourite band. They have produced consistently good tracks over the years I don't skip any songs and I have all the albums on mp3 for playing in the car. Its the only cd which never comes out of the car all the others get swapped around, but I always keep KC in there. Now I love Ozzy and Led Zep, Deep Purple Uriah Heep Genesis AC/DC blah blah, but they've all produced the occasional track I don't like. Not so Kingdom Come, so jump in at this first album and see what you think.I personally don't find them at all like Led Zeppelin. And if thats who people think of when they hear them then surely thats a compliment.

Led Zeppelin? Who they?
The album that was rumoured to be a Led Zeppelin reunion (or a blatant rip off, take your pick) The opening track, living out of touch, is the most 'Led' track on the album, particularly the closing riff. 'Loving You' could have come from Houses Of The Holy and there is heavy 'Led' influence throughout. I loved this album in 1988.And now in 2005?I think the album has stood up to the passage of time really well and is a great driving album. '17' is a track that needs blasting at maximum volume. The production is excellent and this is a really classy piece of old school hair metal. Give it a go, you won't be dissapointed.
