The Adventures of Hemera Nyx in the Galaxy of the Future!

This book surprised me in so many ways. I was delighted by the audio version. It was basically a radio play from back in the old days. The stories were fun and kept me engaged the entire time. I couldn't put it down.I would recommend this book to anyone (and have several times already.)Also, though it's not rated for all ages, (I don't think) this part of the series is quite wholesome. I cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out.

Every word was so carefully placed. The adventure was just as I’d hoped it be with an ending that could lead to more adventures or be left as is, even with all of the unanswered questions I still have. I really enjoyed this book and I’m so glad it was my last book for 2023.

This book really treks along with one adventure after another. At first, you might think this is a book for young teenagers, but there are a few topics that start to develop that track along with the character growing up. There are some swear words in this book, in case that's important for you to know. Hemera gets into some pretty challenging situations, and it's very hard to imagine how she will get out of them. Still, the writer leans into how special she is and creates some spectacular resolutions! It's a really good story and I'm looking forward to reading more of her adventures.

The author sent me a code so I could listen to the audiobook on audible. He did not ask for a review but I loved it so I'm leaving one anyway!HOLY SMOKES! I don't think I closed my mouth for the entirety of the book while I was listening to it. I was NOT expecting the sound effects and sound track to go along with the story. Why don't more audiobooks do this???? Between the sound effects and the narrator's cinematic reading style, I felt like I was at the movie theater the entire time. Even my seventeen year old son was into it! He said, and I quote: "Yeah, that was a nice touch." (which is high praise coming from a seventeen year old lol)Hemera Nyx is a teenage girl who wakes up injured with no memory of crashing, and no idea where she is. When she realizes she's being hunted, she steals a spaceship to escape. She is eventually rescued by my favorite character, a worm-like alien she calls wormy. My favorite element of the storytelling was the way the aliens communicated. I don't know why, but the alien dialogue gave me so much serotonin. I could listen to Hemera and the aliens do nothing but argue for an hour and be very entertained.As the story goes on, Hemera encounters more aliens and there are a lot of great action sequences, but when one of her alien friends gets kidnapped, she has no choice but to set out to rescue him (it?). After more space action, tragedy strikes and Hemera is declared a fugitive and imprisoned onto a dying garbage planet, where she is forced to plot yet another daring escape.This book has lots of silly humor and fart jokes, but it also has a few swear words so I would rate it for teens and up. If you are a fan of space operas I highly recommend this book. I double recommend the audiobook! I'm just blown away at how cinematic the audiobook was put together.

But the body count is extremely high, and there is graphic violence. Hemera's amnesia prevents her from understanding all of her losses; also, she seems to be very much a teenager. The worldbuilding is very dark, especially the current human situation. I liked Hemera despite her reckless actions, so I am interested in her further adventures.

The strengths of this book are that its very age-accurate and quirky protagonist: Hemera! Along with this, the story has interesting destinations and aliens that you can explore that are complimented with great descriptive care.The major improvement I would make for the book would be pacing. Though written in an anthology fashion, I would have loved to see different stories fleshed out into longer stories. They have amazing potential but sometimes miss out on emotional beats or opportunity to explore their creative realms due to the fast pace.

I listened to the audiobook and I was not disappointed! I loved the sound effects and the soundtrack! It really added to the story.Hemera Nyx shows courage and bravery while learning how to live life after waking up in a wrecked ship, injured and with memory loss. Alien friends (and enemies) may have some help in this!This book is a fun sci-fi adventure! Note: There is some language if you’re planning to allow younger readers to read it.

This was such a cool read!! The Adventures of Hemera Nyx is a sci-fi space adventure that I could not put down. I binge read this book last night and finished it today.RSK is an indie author I found on TikTok. He published this book earlier this year and I secured myself a signed copy.No matter what lense you're reading this book through (literary or recreational), this book was incredibly well written. There is something about the idea of being in the void of outer space and still finding the will to live, the will to adventure that I admire in the main character.Overall, I thought this was an excellent book and I highly recommend this to any sci-fi lovers.
