does this scan 8mm film into video files? or a series of stills?

No, I'm afraid it doesn't. It is designed as a frame by frame scanner for negatives or positive transparency stills, and does this very effectively. I suppose it could be used as a frame by frame scanner for 8mm, but I suspect it would be rather time-consuming and 'fiddly' to do a whole video in this way. Hope this helps. Pixcel8

Can this scanner take other size negatives such as 120 or only 35mm?

I think the answer's no, but i don't really understand old negatives. i want to buy an old 6 x 9 negative of historical interest. can i use this?

Your fears are correct this 'scanner' will only cope with 110 & 35mm negs or slides. I have a lot of old larger style negatives which require more specialist equipment.
