The active ingredient that makes the product work so well is food-grade carrageenan. Carrageenan is derived from naturally grown seaweed. The carrageenan is mixed into a water solution (using de-ionized water for purity) and also food grade sodium chloride. The sodium Chloride helps to slow the decay of foods. The gel has a faint smell of chlorine when you first activate - this will disappear after about half an hour and then the product remains odorless. The Gel is sealed in the container with a plastic inner seal. It will not start to work until the inner seal is removed (to do this, remove the white vent cap from the top of the container, remove the inner seal and replace the white vent cap firmly). Place the container in the middle of the Fridge in an upright position. Once activated the Gel evaporates in the Fridge - seeking out the gases and absorbing them at their source. The active gel will reach all parts of a full size refrigerator and give complete odor control for about 12 weeks. Compare us to baking soda which is inactive. I left the fridge open for two full weeks but the stench wouldn't quite go away. When I read the reviews for this product, you can image that I was very skeptical but I gave it a change. Wow! After putting this thing in my small fridge for just one day, it took the lingering stench (of a dead mouse really) away!! They claim this thing lasts for a full four months.
