I have had occasions where it stood without falling over for a period of time on carpeting. If it's on a hard floor, the bottom slides out from under it. Remember, this is a top-heavy stick vacuum. Its top portion outweighs the bottom portion. I do stand it up to store it, but I put the bottom on a nonskid surface and tuck it snuggly in a closet where it has no where to go. If you're asking if you can let it upright and easily walk away from it, I would say NO. **Q: Does the power cord automatically reel in or do you need to manually roll it up?** A: manually roll it up **Q: Can the dustbin detatch from the motor?** A: Yes, the dustbin detaches with pressing these button things on the side.
