Now, already, the noisiest device in my AV rack... I'm not a huge fan of the silicone mounts, either, but they are not the problem.Update 3/19/2018: I cut off the silicone mounts and reattached this same fan using the original screws -- actually just two of them so I didn't have to remove the motherboard. The fan is quiet again. With the silicone mounts, it seemed like the fan was a little too free to rattle around. I hope that's all it is, so upgrading to 3 stars. I will try to remember to update again regardless if the fan gets noisy again or if it remains quiet. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Fan: 1 - Silicone mount: 0 *by W***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2018* Well, after 7 months our Tivo OTA got noisy. I thought this replacement fan with the silicone mounts would be the answer. The fan itself seems to work fine. Noise level has dropped to an acceptable level. The problem I'm having is with the silicone mounts. As you pull the mount through the Tivo frame, that's no problem. But when you pull the, what I would call the "anchoring" section through the fan screw hole section, the silicone tail just snaps off. After gently, but firmly trying to get these mounts through the fan mounting openings, and having them break, I gave up and resorted to putting the screws back into the fan. Well, you can put 3 of the 4 screws back. 1 hole has the power wiring running through it.I would suggest avoiding this fan if you're drawn to the idea of having the silicone mounting system. It simply didn't work for me.UPDATE! Today is January 21, 2022 and this fan started making its' "dying" groaning sounds. I bought this in May of 2018, so it almost made it to 4 years. Not bad for the price. The question is, do I buy this fan again or look for a better (quieter, longer lasting) replacement? I will look around and see what's out there. . . . ### ⭐⭐⭐ Somewhat noisy, but works *by U***K on Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2019* This is a small ball-bearing fan intended to replace the fan in the Tivo Roamio OTA DVR. It has the right operating characteristics, so it works. Ball-bearing fans have great life expectancy, however, they are inherently noisier than sleeve and fluid cushion bearing fans, and this one is no exception. At full speed it whines. To help prevent this, the maker has provided silicone rubber anti-noise mounts to reduce transmission of the bearing whine to the chassis. However, the Roamio screw mounts for its original fan are too small to fit the silicone mounts into. Not wanting to have to drill the holes out larger, I instead turned three of the four original screws into the fan chassis to establish threads, then used them to mount the fan. (The 4th screw cannot be used because one difference this fan has from the original is the lead wires come out of it in a way that prevents having a usable 4th mounting hole). Fortunately, the Roamio reduces fan drive voltage when its processor is not hot, causing the whine to fade. But when it gets warm, that noise comes back.So, the bottom line is the fan works, but the provided mounting scheme is not successful so you get extra noise. The silicone mounts are a standard type used in computer chassis boxes that have the appropriately sized holes for them.
