Maybe, spoilers. Oh well, it will not show the true magic this movie has to offer.
This is a real feel-good romantic comedy, this could warm the hearts of those even with the toughest of skins. That is surely what is expected anyway with a cast like this, Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, what more could you want? I first watched this movie online after being bored and wanting to watch something new, as soon as I realised this was a Nancy Meyers movie, I just knew that I was in for a treat. Some of my favourite movies are Nancy Meyers movies, The Parent Trap, Father of The Bride 1 & 2 and so it was apparent that this too would become one of my all time favourites and make me jealous of all the surroundings and beautiful houses and places.Diane Keaton gives a belting performance as Erica Barry a divorced playwright who's plays have been seen all over the world and are quiet famous we are lead to believe, she is alone and it is suggested that she stays inside most of the time writing instead of letting herself meet new people. She has a daughter Marin whom is scared of falling in love and getting hurt, she starts dating Harry a sixty-three year old very rich business man whom is prone for dating younger women and has not even seen a woman his own age naked which is quiet bizarre and you get the impression that he is your typical man who is happy to just sleep with someone and send them home as he has never been married and never experienced true love, Jack Nicholson portrays this with ease and shows that he is perfect for this role.Marin decides to take Harry to the beach house her mother owns in the Hamptons but unaware that her mother is there with her aunt for the weekend, they of course, cross paths and Erica discovers her daughters relationship with Harry and is not impressed. She takes it on her shoulders and decides they will all stay for the weekend and try and get on together. After dinner Marvin Gaye is heard in the background and after a few laughs you hear Marin's scream, Harry has of course from the 'excitement' had a heart attack. As not to spoil it any further I'll just summarize the rest, Erica has to look after Harry on her own at the beach house and what could come from that? As Harry's doctor takes a liking to Erica after seeing all of her plays and asks her out on dates and then Harry and Erica's hate soon turns into something completely opposite...Will Erica be able to turn the fun living, one night stand loving, young women loving Harry into the man who gets the lady? You will just have to buy it and watch, you will not regret it!!!The soundtrack is sublime.

A matter of personal taste
I watched this film some years back, and it stuck it my memory as one to watch again. I have mixed feelings with regards to Jack Nicholson and tended to refrain from watching Diane Keaton's films as many were with Woody Allen, who I cannot stand! So WHY was this film so memorable, to me?Well, the characters (as others have pointed out) were somewhat stereotyped, but is this necessarily a fault in the plot? Aren't all of us, in some way, stereotypical, either in our personalities, lifestyles or relationships? The charm of this film is - perhaps - in the stereotyping elements, in that we are able to relate to the characters and their emotional mishaps and feel that, some how, there is hope for us all?I found the plot, whilst not being mind-bogglingly complex, to contain a few twists that held my attention throughout, (though I would have probably chosen Mr. Reeves over Mr. Nicholson any day - on the other hand, would I really want to be with a man who was prettier than me?) and found Ms. Keaton's romantic involvement with Mr. Reeves believable as her character was a charming understatement of a maturely attractive and sensual woman.I have bought 2 copies of this film; one is for my own library and one is for my parents. They also have seen this film already and wanted to watch it again; this, for my father, is a rare occurrence for anything not featuring either football or John Wayne! This film leaves you with a 'feel good' factor, so unlike many nowadays that are filled with futuristic doom and gloom, or tales of murderous betrayal and revenge. Watch it for what it is - an enjoyable film.

Jack and Di deliver the goods!
Not much I can add to the already bountiful crop of reviews for this one! But I might as well throw my threepence worth in! This is a really good, warm and amusing movie. The casting is perfect. Jack does'nt even have to act - he just plays himself. The basic plot is that ageing lothario Jack, aiming for yet another conquest, falls for the girl's mother rather than her daughter. Once this point is established the rest of the film is devoted to their mutual, late in life, adventures together. If you liked 'Sleepless in Seatle' - that kind of thing - you'll have no problem enjoying this one. Draw the curtains - open the popcorn - and enjoy!

Loved it! - Rediscovering love at a later stage of life - mature love
Diane Keation is one of my favorite actresses and here you can see why. She has found her role as the ever so slightly neurotic woman and play it to perfection. Sometimes over the top, but always with a heartwarming touch. Jack Nicolson is cast in his top role as the overbearing macho who in the end is not so sure. So perfect mix. The story is just nice, very American, maybe sterotype but nice. It shows how two people advanced in age discover or rediscover love. So it is not the typical Hollywood comedy of two extremely pretty and young guys following in and out of love. Here it is more mature and therefore more difficult. Both come with package...The story is nicely told, no boring moment. Keaton and Nicolson are in top form and carry the story. For her performance Keaton earned a Golden Globe and Acadamy Award nomination and Nicolson at least a Golden Globe nomination. The other cast (Amanda Peet and Keanu Reeves co-star) is nice, but can not match Keaton and Nicolson. It maybe not the deepest of movies, but it is a refreshing and entraining comedy and after haveing watched it, one is in a good mood. What does one want more?

I love this movie!!
I love this movie! Diane and Jack are just such an awesome double act, the chemistry and the way they bounce off of each other is such a delight to watch. Diane Keaton particularly is very captivating in this movie, so adorable and brilliant, real quality acting. And it's funny!....and light hearted and has left me feeling inspired! So grateful for this type of genuinely uplifting movie, seems it's quite a rare thing these days.

Wonderful
I first saw the film in translation (never a good idea), yet it had me laughing out loud in the cinema; so it just gets better in the original.Highly recommended as therapy to us "ladies of a certain age". Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson spar beautifully.

DVD will not play. It was meant for region two but the seller failed to mention that.
The DVD won't play in Canada. Threw it in the trash.
