The gears are hardened.
The gears appear to be good quality. I purchased them for a genius friend to use in one of his many over the top model projects. He needed bevel gears to help with animation. The larger gears with spur gears in the set appeared to fit the bill for him. We have not used the gears in an RC car. The reason for this review. Originally my friend thought he could cut down/modify the gears to fit his needs. Nope. The gears are hardened. That should be good news for an RC car owner that is looking for longer service life. (FWIW. The gears were able to be installed a bit differently and used in the model project.)
