I've lost count of the sets of booties I've purchased for our Wire-Haired Dachshund mix. He's got short legs, and long feet, plus he's male and so he does the "hard foot sliding thing" often to mark his territory. We only need booties for snow or wet ice conditions, especially when there's salt down (it buns his feet). The problem with all other booties I've purchased (once I found the right size, they need to fit snug, but not too snug) is that they don't go up high enough on his leg. They "just" cover the paw and the lower ankle, and even with Velcro strips (my own or those coming with the booties) I never found a set where they stayed on for any length of time, leaving me to watch his feet closely so I could find Velcro strips and booties somewhere in the snow. A real pain. Anyway, I did an exhaustive search on Amazon yet again, and found these. Here's what makes them work better than any others I've tried. 1) Easy to put on; they have a stretchy sock-type top and a good sized opening into the water;proof part of the bootie that fits over his paws, and I can easily pull that apart enough to slide up over his paw, and once it's over his paw I just put one hand on his (elbow? knee") and use the other hand to pull it as far up his leg (not quite to his knee) such that his paw is firmly inside the bootie. Then 2) they have the best attached Velcro strip I've ever seen. It goes though a metal loop on the front/side of his foot, and loops back around his ankle and you can secure it very tightly. Since it's wrapped round his leg, so to speak, and not the back of his paw, and pulled tight, it's virtually impossible for the booties to come off. I haven't had a single instance of a bootie coming off. And, he LOVES THEM! As soon as I put them on him inside he gets all excited to go out, and once out, the minute he hits the snow/sleet/slush he's off like a rocket. He loves to play in the snow, and truly enjoys what used to be a not so much fun experience. I can definitely recommend these booties.
