Relatively expensive, but more effective
Calcium chloride is exothermic (heat-generating) when it hits water, so it's much more effective than sodium chloride, which just raises the melting point. If you can take advantage of this by using less, the increased price cancels out. My only gripe is that it comes in a large, very heavy, NON-RESEALABLE bag. Be sure you have an air-tight covered bucket to store it once opened.

Use sparingly. It's not like regular rock salt. A little goes a long way.
Works well, I used it today for the 1st time and it did the job.

Alternative moisture absorber
I'm using Peladow Calcium Chloride pellets to replace Damp Rid, in an off grid cabin. I'm using the same buckets and putting chainsaw dust or millings in the bottom of the buckets, to absorb the water, then the calcium chloride pellets in the strainer on top. I had cut the breathable paper filter close to the edge of the bucket and loosely laid it on top of the pellets. What I discovered was…it works. BUT, the two buckets without the paper filter, the Calcium Chloride pellets dissolved completely within seventeen days. In the other six, loosely covered filtered buckets, the pellets were caked together but still intact and working. So…is the original breathable filter restricting moisture absorption or is the lack of a filter causing an unnecessary increase in dissolving of the pellets? I like the product and will continue using it and fine tune this application. I'm thinking of adding dryer scent beads next.
