Gaming..check out the Nitro or Helios 300
I have an Acer Aspire 5750g which has an impressive Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM. It is almost 9 years old, and idecided to treat myself to a less powerful replacement - this Acer Aspire has an i5 processor. This new model does nothave a DVD multi-drive like my old i7 Acer Aspire. No problems there because i bought a dvd multidrive that that plugs in via USB; it cost 20 quid.I love this new Acer i5 laptop. It looks and feels amazing. Looks amazing because of the metal appearance; my old Acer 5750g looks and feels plasticy. Elegance exudes from this new laptop. Its cool, metallic frame is a thing of beauty. It is visually stunning with the premium aluminum cover. While the laptop surfaces have a high-quality look and feel, fingerprints are easily visible. At almost 2.5 kg, the weight of the Acer Aspire 7 A715 is average.Featuring four USB connections, I am well-served..spoilt. You can easily connect an external monitor via HDMI, which underscores the multimedia (or gaming) capabilities. Acer has also thought about an Ethernet connection. The connections on the left side are very close together. It would have been better to place the card reader onthe right side to give some more space to the ports on the left. However, then it might have only operated with USB-2.0 speeds. This new Acer i5 has a finger print scanner on the mouse pad. Also the keyboard on this Acer is backlit, though the characters themselves on the keys are not illuminated. It is just the edges of the keys on the keyboard. It is a joy to type on the keyboard; it feels like velvet. The finger print scanner is a good edition which offers biometric security, not always the most accurate but it works well. This is being sold as a gaming laptop. I have not played any games on it yet. I have used Sony Vegas, Lightroom, sketchup pro and archicad (3d modelling) without any difficulty. Editing full HD video (processor intensive) footage is easy and the Acer never over-heated. Obviously the i5 processor (with turbo boost) and the 8GB of RAM memory is enough for the editing software. Another major advantage- this laptop comes with Power Director which is a semi-professional editing software. It costs 60 or 70quid, however it is free with this laptop. Why is it free? Don't know....never look a gift horse in the mouth. There is limited versions of Microsoft Word and Excel. Wouldn't worry as plenty of free programs quick to install-WPS Office. This Acer comes with a 1 month trial, then you will have the option to pay for the full package. Norton security is also free 1 month trial; I went onto buy Norton because it is cheap at 15 quid, and Norton allows you to download it on to 10 computer devices using the same license code. Value for money, marvellous. The Dolby Audio Premium speakers are amazing. Crisp, professional sound quality. Fantastic full HD 1080p screen makes watching films or videos an absolute joy and pleasure. This laptop screen is bright, has excellent contrast and accurate colours.....better image quality than my TV.This laptop has 1000GB HDD. SSD stands for 'solid state drive' and is faster than HDD. As long as your storage needs are met by 256GB of storage you're fine, you don't need to buy an external HDD, but you should always back up any important files externally nonetheless. Its a very nice laptop but just to warn battery life is a touch wanting. If you need it to last through heavy use over a course of a day, you're probably going to need to plug it back in at various intervals. It is possible to buy SSD to boost this laptop. To conclude, buy this laptop if you want to browse the internet, watch videos and do basic video editing.Do not buy this if you're a serious gamer or do hard core professional video editing as it has integrated graphics, you'd want to buy a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Thanks to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, the Acer Aspire 7 A715 can also serve as a small gaming notebook. For the 3D operation, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 provides a decent performance boost.

Not worth the money...
I have this laptop for about half a year now and I regret buying it. I have it as work/gaming laptop combo with as little programs installed as possible (Microsoft office, Steam and few others).Reviews mentioned slow start up so that was no surprise (no joke here - it really takes a while to start). Unfortunately the computer just does not seem to be able to handle itself. It freezes and slows down randomly and for rather long periods of time (sometimes even running a powerpoint can slow it down to almost standstill) - overall it behaves the same (or worse) than my previous 3-year old laptop. I tried extensively to figure out what might be causing the issues but no luck...There are some nice aspects to it though - it does not overheat and it is decent (obviously not great at this price point) for gaming, but it just does not compensate for all the freezing moments.Overall, I would not buy it again unless it was down to at least half its price (I originally bought it on sale, still not worth the price) and I could not find anything better at this price range.

Returned.
Unusable. Very slow boot up loading (will be the HDD) and not particularly fast. Graphics performance is poor too.I'll get much better value if you just stretch your budget a little bit.Looks good though.

Perfect if you’re a gamer on a budget but still want a sleek laptop for everyday use
I’m using this as a gaming laptop as well something I can use for uni and it works really well. Fast running, graphics are amazing. However, can be a slow start up time and the Core temp gets really high on heavier games, you’ll need to buy extra fans if you’re hoping to play those games. No biggy can get them for a tenner so that’s not a big deal.

Im not going to lie
This laptop is perfect for my needs. I am a student and I wanted a laptop that could last the whole day and play a few games with a charger. Its range of ports is unbeatable with ethernet etc however, The portability of this laptop is poor. This is something that doesn't bother me. I thought the battery life would be better than it was. Im averaging around 3-4 hours of regular use which is fine for me as I only use the laptop for research and composition however, for other things that require a fair amount of juice, the battery only lasts around 2hrs. It plays all the games I want it to play and so far it has been great. This laptop is perfect if you want to game and do school work however, if you need a laptop just for school i would recommend something without a gpu as the gtx1050 eats up battery. Now it is good that you can switch between the integrated and dedicated however this could be quite challenging for people that aren't tech savvy. Great laptop that has everything except a good battery.Just a few benchmarks having now had the laptop sin Christmas 2018:-Rust can run at 60fp on potato graphics and 40-50 on performance graphics.-Rocket league can run at a constant 60fps as the screen is only 60hz-Fallout four runs no problem with the fans not making much noise at all.-Arma 3 is a hard one. For my config it runs at around 50fps but i had t adjust some config files.-Subnautica can run at 60fps constantly.-CS:GO runs again at 60fps constantly.I had found it very hard to tab out of rust however other apps like Subnautica worked for me (even if it was slow).
