Gentle even heat.
Firstly, the description of the item at the bottom of the page shows a picture of two installation methods, one using the supplied feet for use as a free standing floor heater. It also shows it can be wall mounted. There is nothing in the supplied instruction booklet about how to mount it on the wall and there is nothing on the panel itself which would enable fixing to a wall. I conclude that this is free standing only. This is no problem for me as that is what I wanted. Other reviews accurately comment that this heater is a free standing panel and heat does indeed radiate from both sides of the panel. So you feel about half of the output power either side of the panel. This is a gypsum panel and takes a few minutes to warm up (didn't time it exactly, but I would say 5 to 10 minutes). The surface of the panel itself does get hot to touch but it won't instantly burn skin if you touch it. I would estimate it is about as hot as a water filled radiator in a central heating system, so probably around 50 to 60 degrees, that might depend on the room temperature at the time of course. With the thermostat on full the unit will consume its maximum power the whole time, unlike oil filled electric radiators which are rated say 1-2 kw which they consume on a duty cycle to maintain the oil temperature. Oil filled radiators will use full initial power then likely consume less depending on the physical size (amount of oil and surface area) so you don't actually get 2 kw of constant heat output, more like 600w for a 6 to 8 fin oil filled. That obviously depends on the room temperature at the time too. This IR heater, when free standing, seems to consume its full wattage rating (I used an energy monitor plug to check this) continuously at normal room temperatures (20 degrees). So you get that as heat output constantly. To really feel the warm direct heat you will need to be within a metre of the heater. I have other IR heaters which have carbon in glass heating elements which glow red and have an aluminium back reflector. Those types give much more instant focused direct heat. As it is focused in one direction, when near you really feel that heat from those. This gypsum panel feels much less intense because the heat output is spread more across the surface area of the panel, and both sides of the panel. However, this panel most definitely will heat a room. IR panels like this give gentle spread heat and the heat stays in the room you have it in, you don't loose all the heat to other rooms if the doors are open/draft that you would get with other convecting heating types like oil filled electric or water filled central heating radiators. If you want direct full on heat to really feel it directly on your body and don't mind a red glow then get a different IR type like a "Warmlite". If you want gentle spread out even heat in the room, don't want red glow, then this panel heater might be for you.

Very low powered
I wanted this to sit in front of when on the sofa hoping it would heat towards the sofa. However it is very weak and also produces infrared from the back of the heater as much as from the front. Therefore, an already low powered heater is halved if all you are interested in is warming up the area you point it at. It takes a good 10minutes to warm up and start producing radiation. I was also disappointed by how far the radiation appears to project, you have to be within 2meters to feel it. There is only so much you can expect for 425watts. I like the idea of it, not sure I would go with this one again though.

Its pretty rubbish. I can see my breath laying here in bed and the panel has been on for around 5hrs. Resorted to wearing a bobble hat in bed with electric blanket instead. Dont waste your money.
