Would these work for a roadbike in a triathlon?

Yes, but you will need some straps to keep your foot in place on climbs or fast spins. I put the Pure Fix straps on mine available from Amazon. I do 50-70 mile mountain road rides enjoy the setup.

Plastic. They are really light and made very nice. It's perfect size to. Not small or big. Perfect for my 9 size feet.
