Topeak x-Tool+, 11 Function Folding Tool, W/O Bag, Black Color
M**O
Breaks Easily. Decent Hex Keys, Weak Handle. Not up to Topeak Standards.
The design of the Topeak X is clever: Integrating the additional tools inside the handle is a great idea. The keys, while not up to the quality of 1st rate tools, (Bondhaus, Wera, Wiha, PB Swiss, etc,) is good enough for a quick fix. I like the chrome plating, which adds some corrosion resistance, and in hand, the Topeak feels good. The problem is, the handle material, (some type of FRN,) is far too brittle. My hands were cold & greasy, and I dropped it while kneeling. It only fell less than 2 feet onto epoxied concrete. It was enough to break it.The tabs that retain the Torx 15 snapped off, so it just falls out readily. Due to the engineering, w/o that Torx in place, the 8mm can fall out easily. So after 1 use, this tool is pretty much relegated to a kitchen drawer. The glass content of the handles gives it strength- there’s barely any flex. But that also makes the molded retaining tabs brittle. You can snap them off with your bare hands, I guarantee. In order to retain the internal tools, Topeak needs to go back to the drawing board. Their tools are usually better than this.I’d suggest lowering the glass content, and possibly integrating a secondary retention mechanism , such as a magnet or silicone tabs. The cost would increase, but as is this tool is unfit for moderate use.
