great book
Nice to see wuxia that isn’t game progression. Not that I don’t like the progression novels, but most seem forced. Good characters and great story line. Really enjoyed book one.

Great action oriented wuxia
When I first picked this book up, I thought it would be a standard wuxia story. And there are elements of that, but there's a lot more.Verse died after spending his life fighting out in the universe for the leaders of a tech-magic world. He enters the aether only for a God to demand that he be reborn. He ends up on a wuxia fantasy world that is lower in mana than his previous world, but he also has memories of a third world where he was part of the Jade Scripture sect. All of these elements come together is a really nice way. The book is action oriented from the start, when he meets Teris, a brain addled boy. From there he moves to a city where the Sect selection process is starting. I won't spoil what happens next.Along with the action there is plenty of cultivation and meditation. Because Verse's soul is unique after being reborn, he has memories of different techniques he used on other worlds. Sometimes these are clear memories, and sometimes they're fuzzy and unclear. Regardless, his cultivation takes some strange turns along the way.If you can't tell already, I really enjoyed this. The book is straightforward action with a certain amount of blood lust at times, and then the cultivation slows things down again as he consolidates his gains. I can't remember who recommended this to me, but they got it exactly right. The editing is decent to slightly above average, and while there aren't any stats, there are plenty of abilities to keep track of along the way. The characters are well drawn with clear motivations. There are more than a few good vs. evil scenes which is standard for the genre.5/5* and I'm already reading book two.

Quite A Story
I'll keep it short and sweet. Good book. MC is likable and the story makes you care about what happens to him. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Original
Well it is a Chinese cultivation story with sects and everything. However, the story itself is a bit unique. I honestly couldn’t predict what would happen next. So if you like this genre then this story might feel like bit of fresh air.Other than that the story follows the general pattern of cultivate, fight, cultivate, fight and so on. I also like this since it doesn’t waste time with other potentially boring stuff.

Great characters
North has brought forth wonderful complex heroes and villains. These people are well developed, complex and interesting. I will truly enjoy these remaining books.

An Excellent Cultivation...
...story that will keep a grip on you (after the first few chapters!) until the end. The first few chapters are a bit of a slog. But, that's more because of North's need to lay a solid foundation for the protagonist's character/personality.I like western cultivation stories in that they're easier to read and enjoy than their web log counterparts in a different language: there's little repetition of information as is found in the blogs serialization format. The stories flow better in a western novel for, and I don't have to struggle in my reading with the efforts of a limited talent translator. This story represents cultivation in a classic form but with non-human races thrown in for (reportedly) future development. The protagonist is a reborn soul (classic cultivation starting point) who struggles with multiple-life (partial) memories and integrating them into a singluar new life (not classical cultivation starting point). Which, to me, is the main focus of this volume.Oh, there's plenty of action, conflict, progression, and adventure! Make no mistake! Fans of cultivation stories will thoroughly enjoy this book! I hope everyone rates it as highly as I. And, I hope North comes out with the next volume soon!

A very interesting story
A good start for an interesting world series. The MC has very strict moral principles and adheres to them. They dictate his actions. Therefore he needs to rescue his colleagues when the group is kidnapped and he menages to escape. Half of the book is about rescuing these people. So it is a bit of a disappoinment when the story ends without informing the reader if any of the group survived that is except the MC

Cultivation novel--whack--hit out of the park.
A progression adventure cultivation novel written masterfully. Beware, the adventure cake is topped with adventure icing! Sometimes the book is merely good, the usual kind of progression cultivation fantasy. And sometimes, at the end, it will soar. David North knows how to end a novel. (I'm so jealous)... the punch endings that takes a novel (or a set of novels) to a new level reminds me of the GREAT novelists like C. J. Cherryh or David Gemmell. Somebody needs to tell David North--you don't have to be that good! But please keep writing.

Enjoyable
As above, it has such great world-building and is only just beginning, you have a rebirth, cults, cultivation, fighting, past memories, sects, etc now all you need is a fight in a restaurants and a how dare you plus an auction house in the next book lol.

Pleasant reading
Another Isekai cultivation variation. It isn't particularly original but it's a pleasant reading. There is something that could be improved, some secondary characters that appear only once are described with too many details, others more relevant with too few.

Fun
Fun read, lots of power progression for the main character and avoided the usual pitfalls of the genre. Give it a go
