I came up in a dealership environment where the Power Probe was a staple in every tech’s toolbox. That was until my Power Probe 3 mysteriously grew legs and wandered off, never to return. In my quest for a worthy (and slightly more affordable) replacement, I stumbled across the Autel PowerScan. Knowing the Autel brand from other tools I own, and already being burned by a couple of cheap knockoff testers, I figured this was a safe bet—and boy, was I right. This isn’t a flashy tool with a bunch of bells and whistles you’ll never use. It’s a solid, well-built, get-the-job-done kind of tool. It feels rugged in the hand, not like some toy you’d find in a discount bin. The ergonomic design gives you great control, and you can hold it for extended periods without your hand cramping up—trust me, that's a real bonus when you're neck-deep under a dash chasing gremlins. The LCD screen is bright and crystal clear in just about any lighting condition, and while the built-in pointer light isn’t going to replace your shop headlamp anytime soon, it’s just bright enough to be useful in tight, dark spaces.
