Beautifully written with an intriguing plot!
I really enjoyed this book! I love historical fiction novels that are set in WW2 so couldn't wait to get stuck into this!It is told from 3 perspectives: a young girl (Matilda), a young adult (Elsi) and a high ranking Nazi Doctor (Willem). I thought it worked really well that all 3 perspectives were completely different - all were from various backgrounds and had different motives etc, which made it unpredictable and intriguing, in the sense that various subplots were present throughout, even when there was one 'main' story line as such. It was also interesting to have a viewpoint from a Nazi official, as this is rarely done in WW2 historical fiction (or certainly from what I've read!).This book was written beautifully, and the description of events was depicted in a very detailed and thoughtful manner. The plot was engrossing and well thought out (especially the last 1/4 of the book) and it flowed between characters in a way that was easy to read, whilst still holding suspense. I particularly enjoyed the middle 70% of the novel and all the action that took place, which left me guessing as to what was going to happen next. The way the novel ended was a little predictable in my opinion (maybe because I've read several WW2 historical fiction books that have ended in the same way?!), but this certainly didn't detract from how great this book is and how various issues such as Aryan camps and a more medial understanding of Nazi policies was depicted, which offered a new and intriguing perspective of WW2. Highly recommend!
