Deliver to Vietnam

It s been twelve years since Paul Maud dib Atreides s (Alec Newman, Frank Herbert's Dune) desert-dwelling Freman Jihad spread out across the universe to exterminate all that remained of the Old Imperial armies twelve years of war as all the known planets were colonized, one-by-one, under Maud dib s rule. Out of this chaos, the House Atreides has emerged as a superpower of Dune the arid planet, Arrakis. But its Imperial government is not omnipotent. Its greatest enemy, the fallen Baron Harkonnen (Ian McNeice, A Christmas Carol), still strives to regain control of Dune, its mysterious life force, and everything it represents to the galactic order. A far more insidious threat is poised and ready to strike within the treacherous House Atreides. As Maud dib s secret enemies grow in number, his only chance to protect the family s supreme reign is in his new twins, born of his concubine, Chani. Soon, the hope for Dune will be in the hands of his young son Leto (James McAvoy - X Men : First Class, Filth, Wanted) heir to a power unimaginable. It will be Leto s responsibility to demystify the legacy of his father, raze the old regime, and restore peace to the Empire. But the ultimate battle has yet to be waged, and the children of Atreides the children of Dune will find themselves trapped in an unpredictable future of their family s own making. As Frank Herbert s award-winning visionary masterpiece reinvented the mythology of fantasy fiction, so does Dune Apocalypse reinvent the boundaries of fantasy film. From high court intrigue to stupendous battles, from theological/ecological speculations of the future to confrontations with the supreme intelligence of the universe. This incredible science fiction has also been released under the title Children of Dune

Children of Dune renamed as Dune Apocalypse
Having watched and enjoyed the Dune mini-series, I naturally wanted to see the sequel. The production's precursor was fairly faithful to the source material, certainly more so than film. It features a strong cast, with some re-casting from 'Frank Herbert's Dune'. The CGI special effects are not the best quality, which gives this something of a low-budget feel, which is a shame. This production features significant compression of the story (which let's face it, 'Children of Dune' can easily handle). Part one is based on 'Dune Messiah' and parts two and three, 'Children of Dune'. I can imagine anyone who watches this who is unfamiliar with the source material would find it quite confusing.

This is EXACTLY the same as Dune Apocalyse!
I bought this thinking it was another in the Dune series, at same time I bought Children of Dune, which I watched first. The two are the same! And by the same film company too. A clear case of tricking the public into buying multiple copies of the same product. Sadly it was only after opening and playing it's start that I realised this or I would have been sending it back. Really not a happy bunny, hence this review, I don't want you to feel the same disappointment that I'm feeling. I will have to be more observant in future. Hope this saves you wasting your money.

Just a re-hash
It's become prevalent among'st film directors and producers to try and better a previous release. Take the new Star Trek movie for instance, it's a remake of Wrath Of Khan, different storyline but basically a clone. Dune Apocalypse is no different, it's a re-hash of Children Of Dune. I like the Dune franchise, always have so this is one to add to the library. It does have some extra bits, only to justify it's existence on DVD. If you like the Dune series it's worth watching to compare between Children & Apocalypse, but the bottom line, buy one or the other. Having both seems a waste of space on the shelf.

Perfect condition.DVD is region 2, fully englishWhen there are parts with character speaking different languages, it tells you in english; do not confuse this with subtitles for alternate languages.Have not tried turning subtitles on, so wont be reviewing that.

Better than either of the Dune movies.
Good job illuminating the complex issues that later volumes of the Dune saga presented. Fans of the books still await the ultimate filmization of the story. I hear one may be in the works. Meanwhile I think this is the high point of all the filming of the lengthy and complex saga so far. If you are a fan, watch Jadorowsky's Dune, the documentary of a failed attempt to film it...fascinating in the lengths folks are both willing and not willing to go to see this all on film.

All Regions?
This disc does NOT play in all regions. I put the disc in my blu-ray player and it spit it right back out. it will however play on my laptop, which is acceptable but still annoying.

DVD will not play on USA DVD players
Purchased this DVD because of the great reviews. Upon futher review, it would seem that most of the great reviews were for the Blu-ray version. Afer receiving the DVD, I attempted to pay on three different DVD playes, one Sony and two Samsung players, all purchased within the last several years. Would recommend that the seller notify buyers of this issue before any additional issues!
