A great personal story from a great athlete
First, I have known CC since he was 17 years old when my son p,aged on the Vallejo High team with CC. I know his mother Marg as well.CC’s sharing of personal events is enlightening. I never knew is addiction was present early on. He was one hell of an athlete. His story struck home on a few issues. This book had to be difficult for CC and his wife,Amber. If you likereadingaboutathetes stories, this is a good read.

Good read
This book is a good, straight-forward memoir of CC Sabathia's baseball career and personal life. As we are told, all is not as it seems on the outside. I did not know his turmoils prior to reading his story. CC battles mental pressures and addiction. It was difficult to read at times because his feelings are raw and untamed. There is an abundance of foul language, which readers should know beforehand in case that is a deal breaker for them. I am a lifelong Yankees fan as well as a big fan of Sabathia, MLB baseball, and biographies/memoirs in general. If I wasn't, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed this book as much.

A true tale of an athlete
This story is so heartfelt and beautiful. Well written and an easy read. I am a Yankee fan but this book made me aware of the fact I am a huge baseball fan. I loved reading about the relationships CC had and has with genuine friends in and out of baseball. A truly beautiful memoir.

Could have been a home run but ended up a ground rule double
Sabathia in a first person narrative weaves a tale of his rise from a dangerous boyhood environment to the baseball penthouse. He does so competently. However his excessive use of the F-word diminished the effect at least for me. I don’t mind it as part of a direct quote but not it’s casual use throughout the book. It transforms CC from a sympathetic character to a somewhat conceited individual.
