Smart looking and capable.
Capable, great size, good screen resolution, smart looking slim build and very flexible (configurable) right out the box. Worth the money when you consider other more expensive cell phones. I first got one of these as a work issued phone. I liked it so much, I bought one for personal use. Still happy.

Great phone if only the camera was not broken
Great little phone and the Blackberry add ons to Android are great. Unfortunately though the camera had internal cracks and could not take a decent picture. Shame, had to send it back.

Never been made "Most secure ..."
I have had the DTEK50 since May 2017. Purchased at BlackBerry directly. It barely got any use, as the missing Picture password prevented me from using it for anything that is not hosted and therefore has turned out as just an expensive toy. If something goes wrong I just live with it being wiped, restore my accounts, swear a little bit and get on.There is no mileage in personalizing the phone for myself and installing apps.Given the time on the market for this phone it is pretty sure to say that there will be no later updates anymore introducing the once promised Picture password.Had I known that I would have send the phone straight back. Thanks to the build in battery it has a good chance of being the first BlackBerry I have to put in the recycling. It will definitely be my least used BlackBerry. And given the lack of anything making it worth to repair it I doubt that I would spend time or money in extending its life. The rest of the phone (software) keeps getting better. The hub has not lost its contacts or mails since months now, so it appears to ripen steadily. It seemingly keeps getting updates though Blackberry is in no hurry usually.A lovely feature is the preview window in the magnetic holster. It had become a little flawed, showing the preview window in an offset but that seems to be resolved since the last wipe. The hardware itself feels pleasant and provides enough power for the usual tasks. But I feel, this is not enough to pay the BlackBerry bonus. This phone has barely anything to provide, to distinguish itself from any other phone with similar specs. The promised security has been robbed an essential feature on this phone, making it impossible to unlock the phone frequently without having to fear that the pattern, SIM or password had been observed by others.Unless you do not mind others to know your PINs and passwords, barely ever use your phone in crowded places or do change your password/SIM/pattern very frequently anyway I would suggest to get something else.

DTEK50 cracked screen issue may mean the screen is extremely fragile and may not withstand a drop onto the floor
Up to last week this was the best phone I ever had, then I dropped it from a modest height and the screen cracked. Had I dropped any other mobile phone, I can't image the screen would have shattered like the DTEK50 did. The problem then was to get a replacement screen for my version of DTEK50. There are three versions, and the version I got direct from Blackberry does not appear to be compatible with available DTEK50 replacements screens from UK repair shops. The phone is two months old and cracked screens are not covered by warranty. The touch pad did not work at all even though the crack was localised at the bottom right of the screen. The DTEK50 does appear to have a fragile screen since there are reports online of screens even being cracked when carried in bags. What I thought was the best value purchase for a mobile phone I ever had turned out to be the most expensive. However, my company is to buy a replacement for me. Tax deductible etc so I don't think they care about the cost. If I had to pay for this personally I would have been extremely upset and out of pocket, so just wanted to let others know of my experience.

Another secure phone from BlackBerry that performs above its class, and price point
I've owned a BlackBerry PRIV for about a year (long line of other BB's before that) and while not particularly thrilled with the hardware aspect of that phone I do like running Android on top of the DTEK security. DTEK allows me to keep Googles overly invasive demographics collection to a minimum while still getting the advantage of using Android which is more like Windows as far as connectivity than Apple products. Apple has that irritating iTunes pain in the hieny program that they just seem to love but most people I associate with would very much like to ditch.Beside the iTunes issue, the big thing that drew me away from Apple years ago is the security BB gives its users. Here especially the DTEK configuration provides a great deal of confidence that Google is going to have a hard time slipping in an app that will collect more demographics and even personal information. Win-win as far as I’m concerned. Loads of apps and all of them can be tamed. My wife needed a phone so we'd been looking at what the carriers have to offer but unless you commit to a contract the phone prices are ridiculous. She also wasn't a big fan of iPhones, there have been so many problems after doing updates that Apple has shot themselves in the foot. When we came across the DTEK50 and saw that the form factor was more like many of the phones that are available today it was clear that this was the time to switch and this was the phone she would switch to.When it arrived the first thing it did was offer an update. I was expecting this as my PRIV had gone through an update a couple of weeks ago. As always with BB the update went painlessly. It’s hard to really get a good impression of the phones dimensions by looking at it online. This thing is really slim and the screen is at least 40% larger than her i4 so she’s pretty pleased with it. While it looks great, the fit and finish is excellent, it’s also slippery. All of the components align perfectly, the bevelled edges make it feel nicer to hold than the new iPhones we looked at and in general it just looks better. After initial setup I slipped in an unformatted micro SD card and allowed Android to format it which then allowed me to configure it as added internal memory. The 16gb it comes with won’t last long. Here’s an important note. If you want to increase the available system memory you need to insert an unformatted micro SD card. This will force the OS to ask if you want to format it, select yes and then allow it to so its thing. Then when prompted select the option to use it as internal memory. This way it now has 80gb of memory and I don’t have to worry about going through the hassle of setting up the OS to load apps on a memory card that is set to be "external".Overall, using the phone for browsing and other non-phone call items, its smooth. The processor has no problems with any of the apps I’ve installed. The display is clear and bright. Everything about this phone looks and feels more like a top end product even though it’s not.The nice people at BlackBerry also included a very nice sounding wired headset, nice touch. This isn’t a QUALCOMM Quick Charge rated device but it certainly charges fast enough. For the price we paid on Amazon we’re both happy, my wife got a new phone and I saved some money. I also didn’t have to get into a contract to receive the savings.
