Simply the BEST for portable retro gaming...
For 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit retro gaming, there isn't a better handheld on the market. The Powkiddy RGB30 was tailor made for '80s and '90s retrogamers like ME! Finally a handheld that truly ticks all of the boxes. Let's have a look at excellence...Pros:- 4" 720p 4:3 screen. Wahoo!!! Finally a handheld that has an IPS screen that takes full advantage of the square-like aspect ratios of older arcade and console games. This means that NES games, Genesis games, Gameboy games, etc., will very nearly fill the 4" screen that you have in front of you. This is huge, and the Powkiddy RGB30 is the first horizontal form factor handheld to have this feature.- Portability. For me, if it can't fit in your pocket, then what's the point of a handheld? The good news is that despite being larger than say an Anbernic RG35XXH, the Powkiddy RGB30 still is very much a portable, handheld device that will fit in your pocket.- Operating System/Front End. This is where this device shines brighter than most. JELOS is an amazing handheld OS that uses Emulation Station as its default front end. So, in essence, you have functionality that's almost equivalent to a RetroPi or Recalbox setup, but in your hands. JELOS is easy to install fresh (I would recommend... more on that below), has direct updates, and even has direct login access to ScreenScraper (you just need to register on the ScreenScraper website and then enter your login credentials on your device). Setup your WiFi connection and voila! You now can scrape all of that beautiful meta data for every game rom at the click of a button. Easy and super satisfying for those who are OCD, like me!- Processing power. The Powkiddy RGB30 plays everything wonderfully all the way up to PSP and N64 games. That's where you start losing framerate and/or having slowdown issues (but even many of those games play just fine... but some definitely do not). There is also built-in overclocking, if needed. But, honestly, if you're getting this device for consoles from that later generation, then you're getting the WRONG device. This is for older games. Let's put it this way, if it's widescreen, it's not really for this device. If it's 4:3, 1:1 or vertical, you've come to the right place!- Battery. I've found the battery life to be really good. You should get four or five hours with no problem. The only strange quirk about the battery is that it seems to charge better with the device on (I'm not 100% sure about that, but it seems to be the case). There are also several power saving features.- Controls. The buttons are great for the most part (see below). The shoulder buttons can be a bit annoying if you actually have to use them (most older games wouldn't use them). Otherwise, the four face buttons (ABXY) are nice and padded, and the analog sticks are just fine. The placement of the face buttons are also excellent, IMO, because they're centered on the device and you have ample space to place your fingers and palms on the sides and back. So even though it's not the most ergonomic fit, it IS very comfortable for most gaming.- Expansion/Customizability. Two SD card slots give you a host of options. I run JELOS on a 16GB SD card using the Interior slot, and then run my games off of a 128GB SD card in the Exterior slot (I recommend using a fresh install on the OS card). Works flawlessly. JELOS also has many tools and apps, some of which are built into the OS. For example, there's a great media player for MP4 movies, turning your RGB30 into a multimedia device, too!- Accessories. In addition to the generic charging cable (I actually use a different one), your Powkiddy comes with a hard case and a screen protector. The device fits into the hard case perfectly and it will keep it safe and secure for any stowaway. And the screen protector is super high quality (glass?) and fits absolutely perfectly. I messed up the first time, but the second time it went on beautifully. Just make sure to line it up against the top edge 100% flush (there's a slight lip to make that easier than it may seem) and you're good to go!Cons:- Controls (Digital Pad and Select and Start). This is really the ONLY flaw on this device, and it's not a huge one. The D-pad is made a bit looser than the tight, perfect D-pads of the Anbernic line of devices. But it still works just fine. If the D-pad was a bit tighter for hitting those diagonals, this would be the absolute perfect device in every regard. But, alas, something had to give. If you're super handy, there are tutorials online showing you how to fix this problem yourself. Also, for some strange reason the Start and Select buttons are super clicky and loud. Like, sort of ridiculously so. I may actually open the thing up and attempt to fix those.I could go on and on about how much I love this handheld! Powkiddy has really nailed it. What you get is perfect form factor, portable retro gaming in a well-built device for just over $100. The value is incredible and do not hesitate to make this purchase.

Pixel retro games high quality bargain!
I have a high powered 3D retro games device I wanted something to play 2D games on that is much lighter.I wanted a small device that fits in my pocket but not cramped for my big hands. I wanted it to have no noticable slowdown or button lag. I wanted a large image with pixel perfect sprites. I also always take Bluetooth headphones for my phone, I wanted my device to work with those and also have wifi. This device does it all... but it requires tinkering and setup to get Bluetooth (It needs ArkOS for Bluetooth audio). It instead comes with JelOS which is much easier to use - if I didn't want Bluetooth audio I would have stayed with JelOS.I'm extremely happy with my purchase as now I'll tackle my 2D retro backlog and rom hacks!Hooks to a TV with a mini hdmi andNegatives:Needs a 5v 2A usb-c charger that is NOT 'USB PD' so common phone chargers won't work.Bluetooth audio is forced (it's meant for controllers)... It's a half second behind and fails sometimes. ArkOS only.

Don't buy this if you care about battery life in the slightest
This thing will NOT hold a charge. If your plan is to charge it up to 100% and play it until it dies every single time, then you'll be fine. But if you plan on not doing that, look elsewhere. It doesn't seem to matter if it's plugged in, or just completely powered off. This thing just drains the battery while it's not in use, so after your doctor appointment or whatever is over and you want to play again... too bad, you probably can't. It's got a few other quirks that aren't nearly as serious and I could probably get used to, if I had the chance. I'm glad I'm not writing this review on it because I wouldn't be able to fini

Mixed review so far
Got the product in good order with fast shipping. However, after only one day, the sound stopped working. I updated the OS via the tools in the software on the device, that fixed the sound, now the video doesn't work. Ordered new SD cards (the ones it ships with are very cheap). Once I get those I'll try to flash a new install of JELOS and see if that fixes things. For the one day that it worked, it was simply AMAZING. Really cool device. Hopefully I can get it working again.
