Here are the specifications from the manual: GCS3051 two wire solenoid 6-18 VDC pulse (latch) depending on condenser. Resistance: 3Ω. Electrical data: Required length of pulse: 20-100 milliseconds. The pulse length is not as critical as long as it is more than the amount of time that the voltage you are using. The current causes the valve to latch , either open or closed. If the pulse is too short, the valve doesn't open or too long will only heats up the coil and waste power. You open and close the valve by reversing the polarity. I have set up a dual relay with a 6 volt battery connected so the the valve is connected to the armature (center connector), Ground connected to both Normally Closed (NC) and the Positive connected to the Normally closed. I switch the valve by activated one or the other of the relays. You can also connect a flow meter to measure flow.
