Para Cenar Habra Nostalgia (English and Spanish Edition)
D**T
Emotive
This collection of poetry sheds light on the cultural merge experienced by the immigrant; simultaneously marked by a sense of hope and loss.It reads as a sum of pauses capturing the author often times unguarded by the pull of her own memories, while fully conscious of the contrasting scenario around her.The American dream is addressed as a metaphor and philosophical incentive to preserve one’s identity amidst the marring struggle of daily life. The text is a letter of mourning but also gratitude, for a past that is still very much palpable and vibrant. And it is the nostalgia of this past the fuel that carries not only the narrative but the writer herself.

Me encanto !
This is such a beautiful written book, and its done effortlessly ! Relatable and just easy.. soft to read.

Even with elementary Spanish like mine- this was a BEAUTIFUL book!
"Homesick for Dinner" That is what I translated the title to be- thank goodness I wasn't too far from the mark. The title is actually "Homesickness for Dinner"Woohoo!I've always wanted to be a poet. Poetess. Female poet. I never could get the words out the way I needed them to. My rhythm was ordinary and I felt rather elementary. I admire those with the gift of word and so when I was asked to review this lovely book of poems. I graciously accepted. Para Cenar Habrá Nostalgia, by Fior E. Plasencia, is a beautiful collection of poems that reads almost like a memoir. From the very first piece, you are carried through the experience of stress: remembering answers to questions, having money in your sock(bottom of your shoes), trying to not being nervous, to obtain a visa, to the flight that transported life and heritage to a new country. Because my baby Spanish is hardly used (though my sister in law is Hispanic) and various dialects can destroyed in translation, I may never truly pick up on every Plasencia wanted to share with me, but I do know I truly appreciated what I did understand. A transplant of this magnitude had to have been both frightening and liberating. The parts of New York I've visited were parts she's grown up in and they are almost different worlds in themselves. I was able to see through her eyes and find the light she shared. The traditions, smiles, struggles and memories from home and new home. Even the pangs of being homesick.*For the full review: (...)**Book provided by Fior E. Plasencia, for an honest review.

Coloquial Poetic Book
As soon as you start reading this book, you don't want to stop. Started reading it on my way to class from work and read half the book. It just keeps going through the mixes of Spanish, English and Spanglish. It is intriguing and makes you keep going. The different experiences she lived through or seen are spoken throughout the poems. How she brings back memories as she rides the train and compares her dreams to the dreamers in the train, to taking turns sleeping and watching over her parents to fulfilling her mother's dreams of graduating. I'll leave the review here with 5 *****, don't want to spoil it. Get your copy today, only $15.00. You won't regret it.

Smiles and Tears
This poet will draw the reader out of his or her shell, whether you are an immigrant/bi-racial/minority or not the words between the pages of this book will leave their mark and resonate in your soul. As a Irish/Hispanic the words leap off the page and slice open wounds I never truly felt. Flor has helped me connect to a voice deep within me that hasn't been heard loudly enough until now. I'm ordering another copy for my mother and recommending it to my sisters, cousins (primas y promos), my father, my brothers, tios & tias, and all others I can think of. I am proud to have this title on my shelf and can't wait to discover more by this poetic artist.

A Must, must read!
Im a poet myself and had recently published my own book when I met Fior. She has a very lively personality and her writing is exceptional. I've been there since she began putting together her book, I've witnessed all the love and nostalgia that she's put in it and there's absolutely no way that you can read this book and not love it. From its beautiful book cover to the words that so eloquently capture those feelings that make you want to jump on a flight and go back to the D.R. This book is magical and certainly a must read.

Beautifully Rebellious & Easily Relatable
I love that this book is written in Spanish, English, and Spanglish. Though I'm not fluent in Spanish and , I was excited to find that I could relate to so much of what Fior has written. I particularly enjoyed a sense of rebellion in "Blue Jeans","Mujer", and "Pintura Seca" and the humor I found in "Afeitarse La Lengua."
