For moderate mileage runners, the GEL-Excite 4 shoe offers comfort and durability. Our signature Rearfoot and forefoot gel cushioning technology softens brisk impact, while our ahar outsole targets high-impact zones for increased resistance wear and tear. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Perfect for a beginner!
I just started this whole running gig and of course, selecting a pair of kicks was in order. I obviously knew there were a lot of running shoes to choose from but never would I have imagined just how much that would be! After spending way more time than I should on researching what would be the best, I eventually settled down on the Asics Gel Excite 4. For one, it was very nicely priced and second, it actually looks like a regular pair of running shoes and not some prototype device that was meant to be released in the year 2050. This Asics running shoe is nothing too fancy looking or laden with gimmicks. It seemed the perfect pair to begin with and I was right. This shoe is very comfortable! At the time of this writing, I've put around 20-25 miles on it and it seems to be holding up quite nicely, although I'm not experienced enough to know when a running shoe would start to show wear and tear. The shoe is lightweight enough for me although I really have nothing to compare it against. I was rocking a pair of New Balance cross trainers and this Asics is definitely lighter than that.I did have one issue in the beginning though, but I'm thinking its has more to do with either my running style or my actual feet/ankle themselves. Basically, my right ankle would get blisters after running for a while. I was wearing low cut/no show socks. This never happened to my left ankle, only the right. Seems like many other runners from what I've read have also experienced this and attributed the issue to shoes not fitting correctly as the main culprit followed by the usual just-keep-wearing-it-and-it-will-go-away fix. Thing was, the shoe felt absolutely solid on my feet. I've tried putting a bandaid on the spot my ankle was rubbing against the shoe but that didn't work too well. Finally, I figured it was my socks. I bought a pair of Feetures! no show socks and that fixed the problem right away! Turns out that socks provided more cover for my ankles than did my other pair and now I am blister free!My tip for new runners that are also looking for a pair of running shoes is to stop looking and actually do the water test first to discover your foot type (just Google this and you'll know what I mean). Buying the most expensive and flashiest pair of shoes isn't going to help much if it wasn't designed for your foot type from what I discovered. It actually could more harm than good. Once I figured out my foot type, the rest was easy. I will definitely purchase another pair of Asics in the future.

These are awesome shoes.
Nearly 2 months ago I ordered these shoes and let me tell you something. These are awesome shoes. First of all, I'm from Venezuela, and I was on a budget. I had 100 dollars to spare and I decided to buy myself a pair of running shoes and some other stuff. I was looking at the nimbus series and kinsei series, which are both highly rated. However, they are overpriced for my budget. So after couple days of research I decided to go with this pair of shoes. I wanted something afforadable with favorable reviews. And those checked both things. Having spent $50 on these shoes, it now seems as though it was the bargain of the year. First impression out of the box? The look good, I wore for the whole day and they felt pretty good. Couple days later i went for a short run. And it felt right. However I'm not using them as running shoes anymore. I'm doing my internship at this hospital. So I'm walking around all day, carrying light, medium, and heavy boxes, going up and down the stairs, rushing to the ER and what not. I work 2 shifts and these are really amazing shoes.

Good shoe when dry, buy a 1/2 size up, avoid wet surfaces
Got the shoe half a size up as recommended by others, fits nice and snug, very comfortable. I took these on a trip where we were talking up to ten miles a day for two weeks, never had any problems. Also good for my level of running (2-5 miles 3x a week). My only complaint is that the shoes have terrible traction when even slightly wet. I went for a run a few hours after it had rained, didn't go through any puddles, just wet pavement. When I got back inside and stepped on a tile floor, it felt like the floor had been covered in a layer of grease. I've almost eaten it a few times when walking on wet surfaces or going from wet to dry. For $50 I can't be too mad, but be careful.

nice shoe
seems a little wide for my foot but I normally wear an ankle brace when I run so I think they will be great fit.haven't been out running in them yet but look forward to when gets warmer. they perform well for doing aerobic workouts and weight lifting. I had purchased another pair of asics but the support seemed to be not right for my feet. These did not feel that way. Very comfortable and nice padding around collar. I would buy again.

Great shoes
Really like these shoes but it took two tries to get the right size. I went on ASICS website and used their size finder tool by putting in a pair of shoes i have that fit perfect. Ended up going with a 9.5 based on that recommendation but they were definitely too small... uncomfortably so. Returned and ordered a size 10 (for less money actually) and these fit great. Haven’t done any serious trail running yet since they look so nice but I’m confident that they’l perform well.

2nd Gel-Excite pair! Still great! (Beware size)
I bought a pair of Gel Excite 2 back in early 2015 and it’s served me pretty well for all the 5- and 10ks I’ve worn them for over the past 2 years—and just walking in general. It was starting to show wear so I needed a 2nd pair of running shoes. Lo & behold the same line of shoes was now on 4; that is, I’m assuming there was a 3. Anyhoo, as a person with wide feet I don’t have much of a selection of footwear to begin with. I liked the Excite 2 so you can bet that for 4, I was just as excited (pun always intended). I really like the design and feel of it. It’s incredibly light to the point where I sometimes feel like I’m not wearing any shoes. Now, it is comfortable, but going back to the fact that I have wide feet, it’s a tad tight. I’ve had these shoes for almost one month and have easily put 50k+ on them so I’d like to believe they’ve been “broken into”. As others have mentioned, the size for Excite 4 is smaller than what you may expect so you would most likely have to go half a size up. For me, I was a 9.5W for Excite 2 and went with 10W for Excite 4. Length-wise it’s fine since I went up but it still would be better if it were a tad wider. I still recommend these shoes though.
