His bear stayed soft for a good few years and went through many washes in the machine, it has proven to be super durable. We had to buy spares incase the worst happens but it has proven to be such a good value for the price. This brand seems to be the one all my friends kids get attached to also. My adult friends own these too so I would say they are good for all ages.
