Coralie is the Queen
I’m a huge Coralie Bickford-Smith fan. Her designs are just gorgeous and this book is no exception. In addition to the stunning illustrations, the story is sweet and beautiful. I love reading this one to my kids!

Simply Beautiful
The binding alone is simply stunning. The book itself is a sweet little tale, and the illustrations are magnificent.

A stunning book visually, but a slightly lacklustre story...
I didn't technically receive any books for Christmas, but I DID get money and used it to buy myself, among others, this gorgeous hardcover. I actually got 'The Fox & The Star' a couple of years ago from my sister and I really think I'm going to end up collecting Bickford-Smith's beautiful works! I'm a big fan of gorgeous art AND fairy tales, and her books combine both, becoming the perfect, short, Christmas read!I have to say, that I didn't like this one quite as much as 'The Fox & The Star' because I didn't fully understand it's message and fund it a little...depressing? It was supposed to be an 'appreciate things you have' kind of thing I THINK, but for me it almost said 'if you have a bad lot in life, put up with it and don't try to change it because it will probably all go horribly wrong'... That being said, I LOVED the art in this so much, that I found myself reading through it multiple times to take it all in. The attention to detail is exquisite and the way that the words are rendered on the page is clever too. These are great stories for children, though this one was a little sad and had no real 'ending' as such. I think stories are better when they have a clear message, which this did not, but it was, nevertheless, a beautiful addition to my bookshelves!

A lacklustre story drawn very well
I bought the authors other well known works and they are brilliant. The artwork is stunning and the stories well worth a visit. This story however is, well, confusing actually. My five and four year olds were also confused. We wondered 'how come the story just finished?', and 'where did the worm go?'. There is a lot less text in this one compared to the others and doesn't tell an enjoyable story. In terms of the binding, production values, illustrations, it's great, but that's about it.

Very happy
Another gorgeous book by this author. We love the illustrations, and the feel of the book is luxurious. The story is unexpected for children, but mine enjoyed it and it has a nice moral to discuss about not letting life pass you by and being present.

Not as good as Fox and Star but still some fantastic artwork
Not as good as Fox and Star but still some fantastic artwork. The worm getting eaten is a bit too grim for my 2.5 year old who loved Fox and Star, I have put it away until next year when he is older.

Present for a busy Husband/Father!
I bought this as a post Masters present for my husband. It’s been a long 5 years and I wanted to remind him of what he’s achieved and to now enjoy what’s in front of him. He completely got the message. Even the pictures of diamonds and jewels in the earth that the worm is rushing past all sink in.
