Review: A Great Swiss Army of Keyboards - Love the way it feels and types. I'm diggin' Gateron blacks. Similar enough to the yellows which are my current favorites. This thing can withstand a nuclear blast. Not a big fan of the toggle switch being underneath the keyboard though. Not enough for me to knock a star off but still, poor design choice. Also not a big fan of their confusing website... Not knowing if your keyboard even has respective software for it. And having to source certain drivers and firmwares from the German site... But other than that it's a pretty great keyboard for 60 bucks. Really surprised that the SE is the cheapest one listed here.
Review: Good customer support - This is a review for the tri-mode 75% (81-key) NKRO 1000hz wireless mechanical keyboard TH80SE from Epomaker. I originally purchased the new Black/Purple version of the TH80SE with Gateron 2.0 Pro Black switches on sale for $43. Unfortunately, I received the used Black/Silver version with Flamingo switches, which I actually find more pleasing to type on. I believe this was an desertcart shipping error, but I still contacted Epomaker's support email about the issue. After providing the details about the product and the issue that occurred, they allowed me to keep the keyboard and they sent me the original one I ordered. As for the keyboards themselves: I'll start off with the black one I received first. This one has keycaps that appear to be similar to ASA profile, so they are moderate height but not tall like SA, though they retain the circular curvature in the middle. These keycaps are a bit loud but have a decently pleasing sound due to the profile. The theme appears to be borrowed from Akko's 5075B Plus, but it looks more cohesive here due to the two-tone color scheme (subjective). The flamingo switches will also provide a familiar experience if you are used to laptop keyboards but want more of a standard size without low profile Kailh Choc, Huano, or Outemu switches' travel. They were all pretty smooth, and the stabs were lubed, but there was a little less on the spacebar so it was slightly rattly. The knob was skipping a little bit but that is to be expected and not an issue with a used model. As for the purple one, this is more of a first impressions since I received it recently. The Epomaker 2.4Ghz dongle no longer has their brand on it, so maybe they updated that with the purple model, or it could be a regional difference. Aside from that the case is identical. The keycaps are the standard cherry profile, so more of a U-shape to them. The Gateron Pro Black 2.0 and these keycaps are much quieter on this board than the black/silver model, so I would recommend this configuration for office work as long as you don't bottom out the spacebar hard. The theme seems to be original and used across multiple Epomaker models like the EK68. The Gateron switches have a much heavier force required to type, so I would recommend it to people who like to rest their hands on the keys. It is much more of a traditional switch, like Reds and Yellows. I also found that the actuation force (60g) is similar to the MX Blue and equivalents, so it may be better if you find yourself mistyping dragging your finger over lighter keys. The knob on this one is perfectly accurate and has a slightly rougher feeling. As for aspects across both models: The keycap colors are fairly vibrant, especially on the purple model. I'm not sure how GMK or Ghost Judges are, but I imagine someone who isn't overly picky will be pleased with these. I haven't touched the software yet, but I can make do with Skyloong's creation, so I imagine this one will be serviceable, but not perfect. I don't do much customization except for assigning functions to the F-Keys. Battery life is decent, about 3 days in my experience with RGB at full brightness. There is room for improvement and results will vary but I think it's decent for the price. Wireless performance seems good, although I'm not testing The build is pretty solid, but my purple model was slightly weaker in this regard with very minor creaking. Feels like it could take a beating, but I am not going to try that. Switches are hotswap, so you can switch them if you don't like them. On Epomaker as a company: As for Epomaker, well I'm frankly quite surprised. People say that Epomaker has bad support and they were banned from Reddit for bad practices, but what I've experienced is quite the opposite. It seems that they have clearly stepped up their support recently, since the person I was communicating with (who is seemingly based in China, due to the timing of their responses) replied daily and was friendly. I know that Reddit Admins and especially Mods are horrible, evil people that don't deserve any semblance of respect but sometimes companies are banned for the right reasons. Surprisingly, it seems that this was not the case here. Maybe it's different direct from them, but I would always pick desertcart first due to their return policy. I will keep this post updated in case the keyboard breaks, but they have a 1-year warranty that I will most definitely take advantage of in that event. TL:DR: The TH80 SE is solid for the price, and Epomaker seems like they are really trying to turn the reputation around and build their customer support. I would recommend this board to a lot of newcomers or 'budget enthusiasts' like me. Thanks for reading.
