The standard spindles are rated at 1000 lbs. when used as a trailer axle. Our Mega spindles would be rated at 1500 lbs. in that application. The challenge is that these are not used in their intended application and leverage and isolation play a large part in their "rating". We have found that it is very critical to have a proper rest and isolation system when in the closed position. As these are sold as a DIY kit, each application can be different, but making sure that there is a very solid rest at the closure end to take the load and keep the assembly from bouncing is mandatory. Also, it is highly recommended that a rubber "snubber" be installed on the carrier, as high as possible, that contacts the vehicle in the closed position to minimize the back and forth wobble. If you have any further questions please contact us directly through our website. **Q: what is the part number for the seal? I need one and a part number would make it easier.** A: 12407 seems to be the most common part number. **Q: So I see that it says it must be installed in a bumper 5" tall...would it not be okay to be installed in a 2x6" steel beam?** A: I installed it into a piece of 2x4 steel and cut off the remainder. Seems to work fine. I really like this kit.Update: After having my tire carrier assembled for over a year, most everything is still holding up well. I don't like the threaded handle setup they provide, and am no longer using it and went with a latch--accessing the back of my jeep while having to spin the handle countless rotations was too much hassle and took a lot of time. In hindsight, I'm curious of the overhead this company clears with this kit; there just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of special prepped material included, aside from the spindle. The races and bearings can be bought from an auto supply store or even walmart. The pre-drilled tire mounting plate is handy but in reality it doesn't take much thought to make your own.... All of this is in hindsight though. In order to piece everything together and/or make the kit myself, it would have taken some considerable time and prep work to locate everything needed. My only gripe is the price.
